Just an idea- Potty Training...

Other then Joshua giving us a hard time going to sleep, he also doesn't care about being a big boy and being potty trained. I am wondering if it would be a good idea to wait until he turns 3 and will be home with me while I am on Maternity Leave. When we tried PT the first time he was doing really well at home, once back at DC he didn't do well on the days that one of the 4 teachers was out.

Maybe his maturity level will be better for potty training, but I have to be honest I wouldn't have been able to PT Everett during Daltons maternity leave. It seemed like even with EJ being fairly independent he found a "need" whenever I picked up the baby to nurse or comfort him.

I agree with Amy...its harder with a little one around...Altho I did it then...but EVERY time I sat down to feed Charlie, Liam would say he wanted to go toilet...

Thanks Amy and Nat.. after I posted I thought about it more and figured it would probably be a bad idea... What I am thinking of doing is waiting until after our vacation in July to go cold turkey with Joshua and potty training. Dh will be home more so it wont just be me working with Joshua, plus he will be moving to a new room at daycare so we might have more help with potty training him.

Yeah that sounds like a better idea...I held off last Sept till we were back in the country fro our holiday...Then went hard...Honestly just stick to your guns...put him in underwear and DONT LOOK BACK EVER...Unless you are going out, use a pull up, but while you are out still push the toilet...I wouldnt bother with a potty at this age...I never use them anyway, as its just another step to go through..the whole potty-toilet step...

You will be pulling your hair out, day after day after day...but one day it will just twig with him and that will be the end of it...Like we said get some special underwear hes picked out, preferably with a character on them he likes, or a car or something...so that wetting them will upset him...

Good luck...

It's too hard to tell how he's going to react to the baby being around or how you are going to feel taking care of a newborn and being in the beginning stages of PT. He might want to jump back into diapers when he sees the baby using them or it might thrust him into big boy mode and he'll want to use the toilet. My mom always told us how my older sister was off the bottle and fully potty trained but when I came along (18 months between us) she went back to both for a bit.
