At my wits end!!!! LONG

Stephen has been such a handful these days, I am going to lose my mind, and don't know how I am going to handle an infant in a couple months!!! There are so many things I don;t even know where to begin!!! He usually refuses to eat anything other than hot dogs (his fave food, so I buy all natural, low sodium ones from Whole Foods), Gerber Graduate meals, Gerber Raviloi and Lunchables (which are great on the go, but not what I like to give him for dinner). We have tried offering him dessert/treats if he eats it all. If he doesn't eat any of it, he does not get his snack before bedtime. He will sometimes go hungry, he does not care!!! He refuses to listen to me when I ask him to do things. He is much better with DH. I think he is upset/mad at me because I cannot do as many things with him since I am very pregnant and in pain these days. He has become very clingy to me and DH. We did not have this for awhile, now it is back. For example, today was his first day at preschool/sunday school at church. Dh took him since I am working. The teachers said he cried the entire time Sad We wanted him to do preschool there because he is not very well behaved at mass, and we don;t expect him to be for almost an hour, he gets very bored. He also will be going to school there in 2 yrs (at least we plan on starting him at age 5 for K) and the preschool is in the school building. We thought he could make some friends and get used to the building, etc. He told us he did not want to make new friends. He doesn't realize his 2 best buddies from daycare likely won't go to the same school as him, one is in another district and the other will probably go to another private school since he is not catholic (our district has failed several levies and is not so great anymore). He is also very mean to me...he tells me he doesn't like me, he doesn't want me to give him a showers, put him to bed...etc at least once a week. I think it is because he is mad at me b/c pf the pregnancy and knowing his brother will be here soon. He got really mad at me last week when I got him dressed for swim lessons and started hitting and pinching my belly  I could go on... Please tell me you guys are having some of these issues????? I am not alone am i??

I had the same issues at the end with Everett, even the clinginess in his daycare class that he'd been in over a year. It's really just the only way they know how to express their feelings/ anxieties about the new baby and changes. Hang in there, he will get over it, stay firm with your rules. He will not starve to death so I'd just keep doing what you are doing.

I agree to keep doing what you're doing with the food thing because he won't starve himself. I think he's probably very jealous of the new baby and is having problems expressing how he feels.

Is there something just the 2 of you can do together? I know its tough being so pregnant but if you can do something fun together it might help a little. I don't know, just a thought.

Good LUck!

i am not an expert at this since i had two kids at the same time so my issues with twins have been/are sometimes different...but from what i hear at preschool from the other moms who have 3-year olds and then infants is that the 3-year olds are acting "crazy" and acting out a lot due to the new addition to the family...

even though i cannot give any advise on how to deal with this as i have not gone through this, i just want to say that you are not alone and it's normal...having said that, i am sending you a big hug...and i am positive that your son loves you no matter what he says....

Thanks ladies...I have tomorrow off with him. We are going to get his hair cut and then go next door to panera and have his favorite smoothie and a cookie. That usually makes his day. Then I am going to make lasagna for dinner and hopefully he will enjoy helping me. He is so into rough housing with dad playing football, basketball, wrestling and running around with Dad that everything I want and can do is boring to him Sad

We think he is having a growth spurt because he is eating more, not different foods, but he is eating alot more, so the last few days have not been as much of a battle.

I get a break this weekened though. Stephen and Daddy are goping to visit MIL who is 4 hrs away and I am not going being 33 weeks preggo! I get a whole weekend to myself!! I am so looking forward to sleeping in Smile

Enjoy the break .. . I'm envious! I'm at that point where somebody has been touching me for the last 8 months and I would love 30 minutes to myself!

With the food, yes, just continue to offer small bits of the things you make, and eventually he will come around and eat them. In my experience, all kids go through some degree of picky eating. I am not one to cater to each kids meal requests, so I just try to offer at least one thing I know everyone will like and ask them to take a "no thank you bite" of things they don't usually eat.

As for the other stuff, he probably is sensing his displacement over baby. We haven't hit that road yet with W, but maybe soon. Though he has his big brother and sister who always talk very positively about baby coming, so he does have some examples of good responses to baby. I would try to include him as much as you can as a helper in the last few weeks as you get things ready for baby. Maybe that could help?
