Our trip to PA

Haha, I've changed our itinery again! I think I have it all figured out now after spending many hours doing research.

We are going to leave our home and drive to Lancaster PA. It'll be about a 7hr drive, so we'll make stops in Syracuse NY and Scranton PA for breaks. We plan to stay at the Doubletree Resort by Hilton in Lancaster. It looks like a pretty decent hotel and got good reviews. They also have a kids waterpark there, which I think will be fun for Josh. While in Lancaster we are going to check out the Strasburg Rail Road, Hands on House, Dutch Wonderland, and maybe an Amish buggy ride. From there we will head to a quick stop in Easton for lunch and the Crayola Factory. We will head to a hotel in the Poconos Mt. and check out the Bushkill Falls. We'll spend one night there and the next day we will stop at Claws and Paws and head home. I'm looking forward to it. In total we will be spending 4nights/5 days.

What has everybody else planned for their spring/summer vacations?

Your trip sounds like alot of fun! I can't wait to see pictures.

We are taking a trip to Columbus, GA for DH's boot camp graduation. We fly in on June 15th and come home the 20th. Not sure what there is to do around there so the only real plans are attending all his ceremonies and a mandatory meeting for married soldiers. I'm super excited even to the point of getting a couple dresses. Then in August I'm thinking about taking the boys to Disneyland for Russ' bday. MIL and FIL have offered to fly us down this summer (I think its so they can take the boys to D-land since my parents always get to). Now just to convince them to do it around Russ' bday.

Sounds like a great trip. I am originally from Scranton so if you are looking for places to eat or clean places to make a pit stop I can help. I also work in the poconos so I know a couple of places there as well.
When are you guys traveling?

So far we have 2 trips planned.. in June we are going to Baltimore MD and in July we are going to the Outer Banks NC. I am hoping to do day trips to other places as well.

We are hoping to travel May 12-16. Suggestions on places to stop and eat in Scranton would be great. I am planning on staying at the Fernwood Hotel in Pocono when we go to the Bushkill Falls, do you know of any name-chain restaurants in the area?

It's nice that you and Amber have a couple of trips planned. This will be our big trip and we'll do short trips here at home to visit family etc.

That sounds great! I love Hands on House - we go there a lot. I would offer for us to meet up with the kids, but your vacation overlaps mine. We are going to Orlando to visit Disney World and Universal Studios from May 7-16. That's about all we have planned for actual vacations, since it's such a big trip. I'm sure we will do day trips to the zoo, Hands on House, and things like that, though.

For the Scranton area, your best spot for chain type restaurants are near the Veiwmont Mall in Dickson City. It is right off of I-81. Located around the mall area (which isn't big) is the fast food type places like McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy's. Also in that area is Denny's, Perkins, Ruby Tuesdays, Apple Bee's, Old Country Buffet, Red Robin, Panera Bread, Uno Chicago Pizza, Quaker Steak and Lube, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, TGIFridays, Five Guys, Fresnos, and La Tonalteca. If you are looking for non Chain I can help you out with them as well.

For the Pocono area, If you travel a litte to the Stroudsburg/ East Stroudsburg area you will have a lot more choices then what is at Fernwood (very nice hotel) In Stroudsburg Ruby Tuesdays, KFC,Red Lobster, Perkins, Olive Garden, Texas Road House, Red Robin, Five Guys, Panera, Friendly's,and Cluck U Chicken. HTH

Let me know if you need anything else in these areas or would like to meet up.

That's too bad, but it sounds like you guys will have a blast.

Thanks Mari, this is exactly what I was wanting to know. I'm also glad to hear that the Fernwood Hotel is very nice. We get to stay there for $99 for the one night and that includes our admission to the Bushkill Falls. I think that's a pretty good deal Smile
