Savannah's daycare goes up to Kindergarten which is where she will be unless she gets into one of the charter schools I like. Half day K would be a problem for us and I don't think I'd want her in after-school program that young if I can keep her at daycare until I get home. One issue after another!
I was a wreck when Braden started K4 in the public school!
If we are still living in this school district next year I could put Jenna in K4, but things are looking pretty good to be moved by then. None of the other districts around here have K4. Regardless, there is no way Jenna is ready for it. I sent her to a private preschool this year, and she really is not up to speed with her same-age peers. We and her teacher are of the opinion that having Jenna redo that class next year, do a 4-year-old preschool class the following year, and then start Kindergarten when she's 6 is what would be best for her. I think it's a pretty good idea to see how she does in preschool and base your decision off of that. Good luck!
This is us too. DH doesn't want to keep her there for kindy because it's so expensive but I would rather keep her in a familiar environment as long as possible (for my own sanity!), and also not have to worry about busing back and forth from school to day care for that one extra year. She will start public school, 1st grade, the year she turns 6 (2014 - 2015 school year).

and my desire to keep her in daycare, if needed, is bolstered by the fact that her daycare is just a few feet from our house! Adds a few minutes to my daily commute!! Grade school will be a whole different story!
