shoes in daycare/preschool

girls, i am wondering: when the little ones go to daycare or preschool, do they need to wear specific types of shoes? do they typically state what to brign the child in, as in "no open-toed, no crocs" etc? or is it up to the parent...

wondering because depending on the job situation, the twinkies will either go to daycare/preschool this summer or start preschool in the fall and well, we already have shoes for the summer--open-toes classic sandals...

and i am sure that it varies by school...but still...what's the scoop? :)

My daycare requests no open toed shoes because the mulch from the playground can get in the shoes and cause problems. I send EJ in velcro tennis shoes every day.

Our daycare has never said anything. I send Russ in open toed shoes, tennis shoes, cowboy boots. Pretty much anything except slippers.

Our daycare is a bit different since it's an in-home. All of the kids take off their shoes when they enter the house. So basically I send them in shoes that are easy to take on and off and that are good for playing out doors. Since the only time they wear shoes is when they go outside, Lexi usually wears tennis shoes with velcro so she can put them on herself before going out to play. :)

I know this probably doesn't help you much but I thought I would throw in what we do about shoes! ;)

the daycare i work at has rules about shoes, pretty much what you said- no open toe sandals, crocs and we encourage velcro fasteners to promote independence (and it would be a long day if i had to tie 16 shoe laces 4xs a day!).

It really depends on the school but I always send her in closed toe shoes - sneakers or sandals with the toes pretty much covered, i always send her in socks too but I've seen kids there without socks and in open toe sandals. Her playground is sand. THey do quite a bit of water play in the summer so she keeps water shoes in her cubby in the summer. When she was a young toddler, she used the velcro but now all her sneakers have laces. She wore dress shoes once, for picture day and they had no problem changing her over to sneakers later in the day.

Our day care is like Amber's. E can wear whatever he wants, except slippers. There are a lot of days that he wears his crocs. He also wears rain boots (even when it isn't raining :lol: ) and velcro tennis shoes.

We have to hide EJs rain boots or else that's all he would wear :-)

Amy - Yesterday it was soooo hot here and Russ was in snow boots bc he "doesnt have to wear socks". Umm he doesnt wear socks with sandals so i have no idea what he is talking about.

It really depends on the preschool. With the one Journi is going to go in the fall, it's no open toed as well as no shoes that create marks on a school gym, since the preschool is at an actual school where they run in the gym during the winter months when it's too cold to go outside.
