Do I remember reading here that someone's kiddo plays this? Dimitri has been bugging me for the last week or so to let him earn some money so he can purchase this. I know nothing about it! Is it appropriate for their age? Do you just download it right to your computer? Can you access it on more than one computer? That's important for me because I have to use my laptop for working at home often so want to make sure I then download it to the right computer if it's a one time thing. Thanks for any help friends! :)
Nicky is addicted, along with Melissa's kids, too, I think! Ava enjoys it, but it hasn't stolen her brain like it did Nicky's. ALL his friends play, too.
It is totally kid friendly...until...someone tells them about multi-player, online MC where they can start to kill or be killed. Then they will want to play online, which is definitely NOT kid friendly. Sigh. Nicky CONSTANTLY bugs me to let him do this.
You can set single player on "peaceful" or play on "creative" mode to avoid any of the monsters that can "kill" the player. That's not really a death, though, you just lose your game and have to start a new game.
You can play on multiple computers with one purchase. We have an apple and a Windows machine, and Nicky is able to use both with the same log-on, even though I purchased and downloaded through my Windows machine. I imagine he could play through anyone's computer with his log-on, but it is all single-player unless the child joins a server (needs a web address first).
I hope I didn't confuse you. We have to limit N's time severely b/c he has a tendency to get swallowed whole. ;) He used his birthday money to purchase, so he doesn't like Ava to play on his login, but lets her when he's run out of screen time.
p.s. want to add what he DOES on it: builds things, crafts things, invents things, discovers things, etc. It's pretty cool, really.
Ry, Amber, Jacob and the 2 neighbour boys are completely addicted to it! And Ry gets pretty much any kid that walks into our house into it ;) Its ALL I ever hear about even. We too have to limit time - or they'd do it all.day.long. Funny thing is that even Jacob who is not even 4 yet likes it  He'll get up in the morning and pull a chair over to the fridge to get the remotes - I put them up there so that he won't get them! So i'll come down and he'll be sitting here all by himself playing UGH.
I think the age is actually 10+ but like ML said its not violent per say. My kiddos do at time play on the 'hard' level which allows them to be killed by zombies and creepers and to kill the animals for wool, food etc. but its not gruesome for example the sheep just turns red and disappears after a few hits. The one thing that I like is that my kiddos actually work together on it to build things and to mine items - its not often that they work together so wilingly ;) We have it on our Xbox so I don't know anything about the computer - Amber went to a friends house and played it on her computer there and came home all gung ho to buy it for our computer as well as the Xbox but I stopped that pretty fast! I am on the computer all day - its my key to keeping my sanity so I don't share it very good and the last thing I need is them stealing the computer for MORE Minecraft ;) Ry also bought it on his Ipod touch - he is completely and utterly addicted.
Forgot to say that the iPodiPad Minecraft is different from the computer vsn, unless you buy the full version. It doesn't have as many functions and they start you out with lots of supplies that you have to find yourself in the computer vsn.
My boys are obsessed with Minecraft! They used to play Roblox a lot, which I guess is pretty similar. They love getting to build and create their own little words. I'd say most of the time they have it set on peaceful (which on the xBox has really relaxing music  ), but like it's been noted I have to really limit their time or they will play all.the.time
Ayden is completely addicted. I hate it.
Awesome!! Thank you friends. I caved and let him get it. Not sure what I am in for now?! ;)
