I went to my normal dr appt on thursday June 19th expecting nothing other then to be told all was good and see you next week (I was 38 weeks 3 days) When I get there they decide to do a NST so they hook me up to the montors and after 40 minutes he hadn't really done enough moving for them to tell how everything was going, so they buzzed my belly with this buzzer thingy and got him moving. When he would move his heartrate would go up like it was supposed to but then it would dip down way low. They didn't say much about it to me right then, but they decided to do another u/s. So the dr (not my dr but his wife who is also a dr) did an u/s and said everything looked okay, said agian he was a boy, and showed me that she could tell he had hair on his head! Then after that she checked me for dilation and such which I was 50% effaced and not dilated at all. She talks to me a bit and tells me she wants me to head over to the hospital for montoring for about an hour. So I was worried but not too worried because I did the same thing when I was pregnant with Noah. I call my hubby and tell him to meet me at the hospital, and call the babysitter to let her know why I am not there to get the kids yet.

I go over to the hospital and get all hooked up by 12:30. I was starving because I hadn't ate much that morning at 8 am!! Brian gets there and we hang out just listening to his heartrate and talking. The dr comes in at about 3 and says that all though the baby would probably be okay, he didn't like the way his heartrate kept dropping and such so he wanted me to stay put and they would give me an OTC (or something like that) which is where they give you pitcin to start contractions to see how the baby reacts. He said with as far along as I was that we would probably just go ahead and have the baby, instead of just stopping it when we found out how his heartrate did.

I wasn't sure I wanted to be induced but I was worried about his heartrate so at 6:30 I was admitted into a birthing room, and the pitcion was started. The baby's heartrate was stable but it still kept having dips during this time. I had a few contractions but never got a pattern even started during the night. At 3 am I was still where I started at and still not having regular contractions. By then I was aggercvated, tired becuase I couldn't sleep, and hungry because I still hadn't been able to eat yet. I just wanted to go home. Finally I feel to sleep, and woke up at 5 am and my water broke. We called in the nurse and she checked and sure enough it was my water. She checked and I was dilated to only a 2. But I know that when my water brakes I go fast from there, so I knew it wouldn't be too much longer!!

From then on I started having contractions and we noticed that the montors were not picking up the contractions, and kept losing the baby's heartrate. At 8:00 the montors werren't working at all and we had to know how the baby was doing so they put one of those montors in on his head, and still had trouble keeping track of it and it dropping. The nurse said I was dilated a 7-8 at this point.

The nurse ended up calling in another nurse and the drs came in. This was when his heartrate kept dipping the most, we found out he was face up (just like Jaidyn was) and that my BP was dropping!. The drs and his wife both asked about if I wanted the epi and I really didn't but they adviced that I get it just incase I needed a c-section (which I could tell they were really considering)

So I got the epi and it was okay. I had both drs talking to me a nurse rubbing my shoulders and Brian talking to me while I leaned forward towards him during this. I felt really good right afterwards and was talking andn such. All the sudden I got light headed they said I went pale, I started throwing up, and the blood pressure montor started buzzing. My bp was down to around 50/30 or something like that they said. So they gave me meds to up my BP and the epi also slowed down my labor some which was actually good because it gave us time to decide what needed to be done.

The drs decided we would go ahead and try to push him out since he was right there, but if it didn't look like he was going to come right then we would have the c-section. Thankfully 2 pushes later Chase Michael was born! The cord was wrapped around his neck which was why his heartrate kept dropping, and if we hadn't have delivered that day then it could have gottne tighter, so I am so glad my dr was watching out for me!

He never left the room, they cleaned him and everything right there in the room and he was just a screaming! after he was born his heartrate was fine and my bp slowly started going back to normal! He was born at 9:53 and finally at 11:30 am on friday I ate for the first time since Thursday at 8 am!

Anyway he was 6 lbs 6 oz and 20 1/3 inches long with a 12.5 inches head. He is tiny and prefect and I am so in love with my little guy! His birth was a tad scary becuase of his heartrate and my blood pressure but all in all the outcome was great! A healthy little boy!

I didn't tear or anythign so no stitches this time which makes healing so much eaiser!! I got to come yesterday after juyst 24 hours of his birth ( but I had been there sdince thursday at noon so it had been 2.5 days)

The kids love him, Brian loves having his tiny little man, and I am so happy to hold him! I lost 12 lbs by the time I left the hospital! YAY He is nursing well and my milk is starting to come in so that is good!

He is 2 days old today and staying more and more alert! He will turn towards my voice the second he hears me whcih I love of course, and he loves to sleep in my arms, instead of being laid down! lol

Speaking of him he is crying now, have to go feed him!

Well on June 23rd my MIL and FIL came to town and we went to pick up my BIL from the airport, he had been in Guatamala teaching enlgish as a second language to children for a year and a half. On the way back from the air port we were in an accident. My inlaws minivan hit the back of a truck causing a four car pile up on the freeway. We were all fine besides some bruising from the seat belts but I was taken to the hospital because I was pregnant. We got there I was monitered and had an U/S to check on baby for 3 hours (was supposed to be longer but they let us go after pleading). I was only having a few BH contractions like I had for weeks. Well that night we had all JUST gotten to bed at 11:30pm and my water broke! It was like the hoover dam busted! So we all got up and frantically got ready and went to the hospital. With DD shortly after they broke my water I was in hard labor so I knew we needed to hurry. Well when we got there I got the speel from the nurses about how they will moniter me and if after 6 hours I have not begun to go into active labor bla bla bla they will use pitocin. I tried to tell them in 6 hours I will have this baby! Well sure enough about a half our lator I was having PAINFUL contractions 3-5 min apart. At about 2-3am when I was 6cm dilated I got my epidural. Soon after I was complete. I felt a great amount of pressure and the nurse had me do a "baby" push. Well she had to have me lay on my side because the baby was right there! She got the doc and after 3 pushes Elijah Nathaniel was born at 4:53am on 6/24. I had no tearing and today 6/25 feel great! He is already nursing well and we got home today. Couldn't have been a better experience!

I went to the hospital at 5 am on Monday morning for a scheduled induction. The nurse started an IV and we waited for the dr to get there to break my water. The dr. arrived around 6 am and he broke my water and started to the pitocin, I was already at 3cm so they ordered the epidural. At around 7 the anesthesiologist arrived and gave me the epidural. Everythingwas okay then until about 8 when I mentioned I was feeling a little bit of pain. So the anethesiologist came back in and upped the meds I was still 3 cm so I told dh to go get some breakfast. By he time dh got back I had had my epidural medicaton upped again and it still was donig nothing. At that point they decided that the epidural had slipped and decided to redo it that was about 10 am. After that, I was finally able to rest I fell asleep and woke up at about 10 till 12 feeling a slight pain in my pelvic bone I called the nurse and she checked me and the baby was beginning to crown. The dr came in and I pushed 3 times and Gwen was here. She was 8lb 11 oz and 20.5 inches long. She has brown hair and blue eyes.

Kailey arrived yesterday on July 1st at 10:56am after 5 hours of "real" labor (w/pit) and no drugs. I went in at 2:00am with the stupid contractions that I was having all day and I was 4cm, I was 3cm at 4:00 when my doula checked me. I walked for an hour and a half and then I was 5cm!!! So I was admitted! It was so wonderful when she told me 5cm. But the contractions weren't strong enough for my ob so she started the pit. Everything went so fast after that! My doula got there and the contractions were getting stronger and closer. She was so wonderful and kept me so relax! I highly recommend getting one! It was great! Then my ob started talking about breaking my water, I was okay with that, Kailey was still at -3 station. Ayden stayed at -3 until my water broke, I have alot water w/my pregnancies, so I knew that would bring her down and I was only 5-6cm. Well, my water was broken at 9:45am and Kailey came down immediately and I was then at 7cm. My contractions really started getting stronger and they were right on top of each other. Well, my body didn't need the pit anymore because Kailey was on my cervix now. So I was in ALOT of pain, still NO DRUGS! So my ob started turning down the pit, she has to do this twice. Then a few minutes later I was starting to feel the urge to push. But I was only 8-9cm, so my doula turned me on my side, oh that hurt so much more!!!! Kailey turned in the birth canal and I was really feeling the urge. So my ob came back into my room and checked me again and was able to get me to 9-10cm and she let me start pushing. 12 minutes later Kailey Faith was born at 10:56am weighing in at 9lbs 6oz (1/2 oz more than Ayden), 20 inches long with red hair. Ayden had red hair too but it turned blonde. Kailey hair is more burgandy (?sp).

I feel great!!! Absolutely wonderful! I'm moving around better than I did with Ayden, and just feel great! I just have a 1st degree tear, but it doesn't hurt which is the best part! Kailey is nursing wonderfully and she acts like she's been for awhile! Ayden n the other hand is being a booger, he's very tired, I guess he didn't nap today.

Joseph Edward (Joey) came into the world via c-section on June 24th at 7:17 pm. He weighed 5 pounds 15 ounces and was 18 inches long. They were unable to get my blood pressure under control so they induced labor at 4:30 am on Monday, June 23rd. I was on pitocin for 12 hours. They took that off, let me eat (I wasn't allowed while on pit) and shower, then used Cervadil for the night. The next morning they removed the Cervadil, let me eat a light breakfast and shower, then hooked me back up to the pitocin. After the 12-hour limit they took me off. My cervix was soft, but high and posterior and I only progressed to 3 cm. I decided it would be better to do the c-section while it was still non-emergent so they took me back. The good news about the 38-hour labor is - I never felt the contractions as anything more than pressure and tightening, even when they were only 1.5 minutes apart and getting serious. Yay hypnosis!

They tried (and failed) 6 times to get a spinal on me and when he couldn't get it going they had to put me under completely. I have a lot of bruising because Joey didn't want to come out. They had to tug and pull and even had to use forceps to get his head out!! They gave me some IV bp meds while I was under that caused my lungs to start to fill with fluid so I had to cough a lot when I came out of it - and caused some bleeding to the incision. They put a pressure pad on the site to help stop that. (When they took the pressure tape off a couple of days later it ripped off some of my skin and I had some pretty nasty wounds on my hips!)

Joey was 5lb 6.9oz when we left the hospital. I've never held such a tiny baby before. At any rate, he's fully developed and perfectly healthy. My kids both love him and I'm happy he's here.

    Hey Mommas!

Sorry I haven't been around much... our little "party of five" is just starting to figure out our family dynamics... Whoever said going from 2 to 3 was easy probably had a full-time nanny and kids spaced out more than 3 years apart! It's been quite the challenge... but a fun one...

Thought I would share our "birth story"...

Pics can be found in our ClubPhoto albums... please check 'em out!!!
    http://members4.clubphoto.com/annie290258/guest-1.phtml

here are a few "teasers" --- will post pics of Ry & Kiana with Kaili as soon as i get them scanned (Stan took their pics with his still camera)

    The Night Before... July 2nd
As with the two kids before, I had lots of contraction action for over a month before we were due... this time, I was also swollen and
dealing with lots of sciatica as well... add that to chasing two toddlers around... you could imagine what those last few weeks were like -
constantly exhausted and uncomfortable... but it's a small price to pay for such a wonderful gift!

We decided to do a "family day" that day - at first, we'd considered going to Great America or the Oakland Zoo but I'd been experiencing
lots of contractions and was having trouble walking for long periods (especially in the 90 degree heat!) so instead we did a little shopping in
the air conditioned mall which was just as much fun (Ry & Kiana LOVE to run around the mall)... Later that night (around 8pm), Stan
took Ryan to Auntie Eden's and Kiana to Mom's. (It was too hard for me to leave them... as soon as they left, I bawled and bawled...)

Stan (as he did the night before Kiana's c-section) brought me a cup of my favorite ice cream (Baskin-Robbins World Class Chocolate)
to cheer me up after he dropped the kids off. We ate ice cream and talked for a while... I mentioned how bummed I was about cleaning
up the house (I can't handle leaving the house looking a mess for any period of time - really hard with kids, I know!) when the phone
rang- it was Bonita. We ended up chatting for an hour-and-a-half! Stan had cleaned the entire house while I was on the phone.
Another wonderful surprise... We watched TV for a while, finished getting everything ready to go for the next morning, then went to bed...
I don't think I slept more than 3 hours... I was really anxious about surgery. I constantly found myself re-living Kiana's c-section since
it was so vivid in my mind - made myself nervous about the spinal block and getting through surgery... I don't know when I fell asleep...
but when my alarm went off at 5:45am, I was still thinking a lot about it all... I was excited but anxious...

    Birth-Day... July 3rd
We left the house at 6:45am - we had to check in with Admitting at 7am. We arrived at the hospital a little after 7am. Checking in
went quickly and soon we were up on the 2nd floor. We were brought to the same pre-op room that we'd been brought to when we had
Kiana - very cool! We took a picture of me near the door as we did the last time. It was one of the "ivy" rooms on the floor. Our
pre-op nurses were Shirley and Johnna. Shirley was a funny lady. She had 4 c-sections herself and I heard all about them. It was a
nice distraction. Johnna was really cool, too. She put me at ease as she did the final prep with me for surgery.

A little before 930am, we met our OR nurse - turns out she was the same OR nurse we had when Kiana was born - an old co-worker of
mine named Katherine. She spent the entire time with us sporting a strong Irish accent - she'd decided that was her "theme" for the
day. Stan helped Katherine roll me (on the big hospital bed) to the c-section area. The hospital had high census that day... good thing
we had a scheduled c-section or we probably wouldn't have gotten a room right away. There were people laboring in the hallways across
from where we were. I heard the nurses talking about the situation as we were wheeled by... (interesting the stuff you notice when
you're trying to remember everything for the "birth story" huh?)

As we sat in the hallway outside the OR, I met Kyle (the rep from On-Q - the company that made the pain-relief system that I was going (http://www.askyoursurgeon.com) to "test" for the hospital since I requested to not have Duramorph again - had a VERY bad reaction to it last time, if you'll remember). He and Dr. Kurkjian were going over how the system operated and talked about how it worked in great detail. Stan and I at that point were separated... he waited as I got my spinal and got prepped for surgery.

OK... this time was a lot different... got into the room and had to wait a little while for the "doc with the drugs" to arrive. I sat on the
table and watched Katherine & Joey (her assistant - who also had been there when we had Kiana) buzz around prepping everything for
surgery. Another gentlemen (an Englishman with funny white mule shoes - hey, I had to focus on something while they were putting
the spinal block in!) came in to help and to calm my nerves - guess he could sense that I was nervous. He gave me a warm blanket and
we practiced getting me in position for the spinal. The anesthesist was named Bob - I can't remember his last name. We talked about
what I'd gone through with my last spinal and talked about ways for me to talk myself down from the anxiety I was feeling...

Once the spinal was administered (I'd decided to go with the spinal again because I found out that it was the same drug being used,
the only difference was that the spinal was meant to only last a few hours - like the duration of a c-section - whereas the epidural was
for longer periods of use - like labor), I spent most of the time calming myself and talking myself down from a panic attack. It was still
bizarre experiencing the numbness and loss of control but I was able to get through it without a panic attack. I focused on the
"Property of Washington Hospital" stickers on the clips that held the drape up (that separated me and the docs) and wouldn't look
away from it... even when Stan came in after surgery started, I still focused on that sticker... (aside from that, I was on a hip tilt on my
right side so turning my head to look over at Stan was going to be a challenge anyway since he was sort of situated behind me...)

Surgery went pretty smoothly... I remember listening to Dr. Kurkjian talking about my scar tissue with Dr. Calhoun (who was assisting)
    - she said it wasn't too bad but there was some difficulty getting through where the bladder had fused with some other uterine lining -
I know TMI!). She requested I don't have another child for quite some time... At that point, I was happy to not entertain having more
surgeries... "Bob" was quite the casanova! He spent half the time leaning over the curtain telling Drs. Kurkjian & Calhoun how his goal in
life was to "get in good" with the ladies at Womens Health Specialists... he was flirting like I could not believe! Fortunately, I didn't hear
much flirting back on the docs part so I knew they were actually "working."

Finally, the end was in sight... "Bob" gave me the "you're going to feel some pressure in your chest as they attempt to pull the baby
out" warning. I started to get excited... it felt like an eternity since we'd started surgery... Stan squeezed my hand and I his as we
anticipated the arrival of our newest princess... a few moments later, Dr. Kurkjian exclaimed, "another beautiful baby girl!" and I heard
Kaili cry... a feeling of joy, and also relief that everything went OK AND that she WAS a girl as the ultrasound predicted, came over me.
I could hear Stan talking to the pediatric team and vaguely remember him singing ABC's or something like that to Kaili. They left
the room for the baby to get checked out and the docs closed me up...

Recovery wasn't as difficult as last time since I didn't have the Duramorph. I wasn't nauseous or feeling all doped up. The only problem
I had was that the pain relief (the On-Q system) was not taking effect in a timely manner. It had been over an hour in the recovery
room and the pain was still excruciating. I was in constant pain in my incision area and frequently needed shots in my IV (and later on
Demerol shots... followed by Vicodin & Motrin pills). I toughed it out but it was really hard... We found out 2 days later (when Dr.
Kurkjian & the RN that worked for On-Q named Shiela checked me out) that there was a problem with the On-Q valves and all that
time, I'd never received any of the narcotics at all in my incision! The nurses and doctors all wondered why I'd needed so much
supplemental medication when it had been their experience with On-Q that patients didn't need anything more since the medication
from On-Q went directly to the incision... I'd been "sucking it up" trying to not double up on the pain meds with all the pills thinking I'd
been receiving the meds and it actually had received any relief at all! I was quite upset about it but decided it wasn't worth getting all
wound up about... I needed to focus on getting better and on bonding with Kaili.

Enough about that... let's talk Kaili... she's a very mellow little girl - just like she was in utero. She loves to be held - which could pose
a problem for us later, but for right now, we're enjoying cuddling with her. She's such a teeny little girl - much smaller than Ryan or
Kiana were... We're getting used to cuddling with such a little baby... My milk didn't come in right away so we supplemented her "meals"
with Enfamil here and there. When we left the hospital on July 5th, she weighed 6lbs 8oz - she'd lost almost 10% of her weight which
concerned the pediatricians (hospitalists). They encouraged us to go ahead and supplement after I fed her to make sure she didn't
lose more weight. (FYI: At her first "official" appointment with Dr. Hogue on July 8th, she weighed in at 6lbs 12oz - a significant
weight gain - yeah!!!) Kaili has really fit in with the family... we all adore her... especially her big brother, Ryan, who wants to hold her, hug
her and kiss her constantly. Kiana is still not quite sold on her, but is fascinated by her. She calls her "Baby Kia" (which is her name).
As for Daddy, she has him wrapped around her tiny little fingers... he's absolutely in love with her!!! Brings a happy tear to my eye to
    see the way he looks at her and how he adores her... {sigh}

Please keep visiting Kaili's website to see how she's progressing!!!
    Love my Terrific Trio!!!

On July 1st, 2003 Ryan and I went down to the waterfront to watch the fireworks and then came home. I went to bed and at around midnight I woke up with some mild contractions. Not thinking anything of it I went back to sleep. At around 1:30am I woke up again and went to the washroom where I noticed some show. I was still contracting and started to time them. They were between 8 to 10 minutes apart. They were painful enough to keep me awake. At around 5 am I took a warm bath to try and relax. The contractions were then between 5 to 8 minutes apart. At 6:30am I paged the midwife who then advised to take another bath, eat and try to get some sleep. By 9 am I called the midwife again and advised that the contractions were 5 minutes apart. She then decided that we meet at the hospital at 10am. When we arrived at the hospital I was hooked up for a non-stress test on the baby and to see how the contractions were. They were between 3 to 5 minutes apart. I was checked and found out I was 3 cm dilated. It was also discovered that the baby was posterior and that I was having back labour. The midwife said she would get a hold of the ob/gyn who was on call and in the hospital at the time for another delivery so that I would get some narcotics to relax between contractions. At around 12:15pm the midwife and ob/gyn came for a check up, I was then between 3 to 4 cm, he ordered the narcotics and also broke my water at that time. At around 3 pm the midwife decided that they would move me to the Labour and Delivery room. I was then about 7 cm. At around 3:30pm I was finally moved to the other room, checked and was almost fully dilated but baby was still posterior. That’s when they decided to use a birthing ball for me to use and within half an hour I was complete, baby had rotated and was ready to push. At 4:48pm on July 2nd,2003 Breighan Erin Love was delivered. She weighed 8 lbs 5 oz and measured 20 ¾”.

A few hours later the midwife asked if I wanted to go home and I said yes. Baby, daddy and I were home at 8pm that same night.

This has been a great experience.

    Default Birth Story

On June 19th at 9pm, Brian and I sat down to watch ER. It had just started and all of a sudden, I felt wet. I thought my water had broken, but wasn't sure as I'm a first timer. Ran to the bathroom, and yep, it had broken. Brian asked if I was sure I hadn't wet my pants, funny guy that he is. I called the doctor and was told to not rush to the hospital but to leave within the next hour. We left around 10 pm and made it downtown to Northwestern at about 10:30pm. In triage, they confirmed that it was my bag of waters and admitted me. This is at 38 weeks and 2 days. The doctor said if things did not start progressing, they would start me on pitocin around 3 or 4 am. Not much was happening, I was having mild contractions and totally unable to sleep due to the adrenalin rush! At 3:30am, I had a narcotic, can't remember the name of it. And then they started the pitocin - or so we thought. At that point, I was able to sleep. At 7:30 am, they couldn't figure out why my contractions weren't stronger and Brian asked if the pitocin waas working for sure. Turns out thye hadn't connected it to my IV. So they connected it and holy contractions immediately! At this point, they startedt o get concerned about the baby's heartrate - it was low from the narcotic. They put an internal heartbeat monitor on the baby's head to get a more accurate read. It was at this point, they figured out the baby was OP. Can't remember exactly what that stands for, but it meant the baby was face up, and the back of the baby's skull was on my tailbone. Yuck! At about 11 am, they did an internal - they didn't want to do very many due to the risk of infection and the resident stretched my cervix to a 4. It was epidural time. They asked Brian to leave the room and inserted the epidural. It helped for a while, but it just wasn't strong enough to offset the pain from back labor. They upped it a couple of times, but couldn't block the pain. At 1pm, it was time to push. I pushed for 3 hours and 21 mintues and then our little girl was born at 4:21. She weighed 7 pounds and 1 ounce and was 21 inches long. She had a conehead but that went away after about a day. Katilin Marie Weis arrived on June 20th 100% healthy - I still can't believe it. We just absolutely adore her.
Lisa - I've been shot in the bum by a little angel!

Our story starts on Thursday, July 10th. Nate came with me and Grace to my usual CNM appointment because we had decided to ask her about the possibility of inducing me. After discussing the pros and cons with Maureen, she called over to the hospital and made a date for us on Monday, July 14th at 6 am. Grandparents descended upon our house like the plague over the weekend, and we spent our last few days as a threesome doiing our usual fun things--especially going for frozen custard.

PREAMBLE: After a bad night of no sleep, the phone rang at 4:45 am on Monday morning, right before my alarm was about to sound. The hospital's birthing center was full, so they were postponing my induction a few hours. According to the nurse, I would probably get the call to go in around 8 or 9 am. I was actually a little glad, because that meant that we would be home when Grace woke up--I was a little concerned about her waking up to Nana and Grandpa instead of us. So as we are waiting, we make a big breakfast of eggs, pancakes, and bacon (figuring I'm not going to get to eat later). 8 am passes. 9 am passes. 10 am passes. It's noon. Nate calls the birthing center and asks what's happening. They say that every time they clear a bed for me, a woman in labor comes in. They don't think it'll be until 8 or 9 pm now. Tears on my part--I mean, what was convenient isn't any longer. Should we just call the whole thing off and wait for the baby to come naturally? To complicate matters, my Dad had to leave and go home, since there didn't appear to be any baby on the way that afternoon. Nate calls my CNM's office to see what she thinks. He is assured that she will be the one to deliver our baby (and we really want it to be her). So we eat lunch and get Grace down for her nap. My ILs leave (they will be watching Grace at our house) and my Mom, Nate and I all settle in for naps. Not 10 minutes later, the phone rings. It' Maureen, my CNM, saying to come to the hospital.

AT THE HOSPITAL: We get to the hospital by 3 pm and I'm hooked up to my pitocin drip by 3:30. Unlike my first induction, they start it very slowly. Maureen has been saying that once I start, I'll go fast. I wanted to believe her, but didn't quite, YKWIM? The monitors show that I've already been contracting regularly, but I'm not feeling them. Maureen comes in and says that the anesthesiologist is in the next room down, and that I'm next in line for my epi. At this point I wasn't even feeling contractions really. My BH at home over the past month had been far more pressure/pain. The epi is in place by 4:30 and then Maureen breaks my water at 4:50. The fact that I can remember these times so specifically shows what a completely different experience this was from Grace's birth.

At about 6:15 the nurse checks me and I'm only about 5-6, but I am making progress. In about 1/2 hour, I'm starting to get more uncomfortable, even through the epi, especially on my right side. At 7 pm, I could tell I was close because I started to shake and the pressure started to get intense. I had to hold Nate's hand to get through the contractions (no pain though, just pressure). Maureen took one look at me and said, "you'll be pushing in 10 minutes." She was right!

Pushing this time was actually cool. I laughed through much of it because everyone was cracking jokes, and when I laughed I made good progress. At 7:37, Annelise was born with just the nurse, CNM, Nate, and my Mom present. It was a really magical moment. Miraculous. So unlike my first delivery. Nate got to announce, "It's another girl!" and he and my Mom took lots of pictures. She was 7 lbs., 10 oz., 20 inches, which sounded huge after my 6 lb. Grace. I nursed her within 30 minutes. We called our house and my ILs brought Grace over to see the baby. We had given her a little stuffed birthday bear to give the baby, and she headed right into the room, looked at me, and made a beeline for my Mom, who was holding the baby. She took the bear out of its gift bag and handed it to the baby (a girl with a mission!). Then, she held the baby while everyone took pictures.

The next day brought lots of visitors. I really missed seeing Grace so I was happy that we could go home on Wednesday morning. She and Nana had made a birthday cake for Annelise, which we ate later that day.

After a rough (painful) start, nursing is going phenomenally well. I couldn't be happier. We just returned from Annelise's one-week appointment, and not only has she gained back the 5 oz. she lost before leaving the hospital, she's 4 oz. more than her birth weight! Grace is having some issues adjusting to not always having my full attention, but she's doing as well as she can and it'll all work out.

I can't say that I'd change much about my experience if I could. We really experienced God's miracle of birth.
