Survey results are in. Folks wanted to donate to an organization for equine therapy in Katy's memory. Camelot Therapeutic Horsemanship provides equine therapy to children and adults with disabilities in Scottsdale, AZ, where Katy's family lives. To donate, go to Camelot Therapeutic Horsemanship and click on Donate at right. They take PayPal. In order to note that it is In Memory of Katy Arrington, select "Send a Message" link which appears once you receive the paypal confirmation page to review funding source/amount. I will tell Karl that several July 2003 Ruby Cutie families are making donations in Katy's memory to that organization and give him their contact info in case he wants that information.
Regarding tomorrow's mailout of the collages, etc., there's still time to e-mail your photos and letters to firstname.lastname@example.org. I will be compiling the collage tonight and printing everything in color tomorrow. I will include the names of the moms and kids who participated in the card I send to Karl. I will post a picture of the final result. Oh and I will also get delivery confirmation oin the package so we know he gets it.
Here is the message I sent to Camelot:
In July 2003, a large group of women joined together from around the United States as we all gave birth to beautiful children. We supported each other throughout our pregnancies and are still going strong as a support group today. On August 8, we lost one of our members, Katy Arrington. Katy was the beloved mother to two beautiful children, Alexander (9) and Astrid (7). Katy was also an avid equestrian active in the Scottsdale, Arizona horse-loving community.
We have all been devastated at the loss of Katy and have been seeking an appropriate gesture by which to honor her memory. As a result, we decided to make individual donations to your organization. Over the next week or so, you will be receiving donations from several of us which we hope in the aggregate will be helpful to support your mission.
If your organization has a process for notifying families of these donations after they have been received as I know other organizations do, that would mean a lot. As a group, we are known as the “July 2003 Ruby Cuties.” Each woman’s name should be listed on her PayPal donation and I asked them to put “In Memory of Katy Arrington” in the message field. The contact info for her husband is as follows:
Thank you in advance and best of luck with your ongoing work on behalf of children and adults in Scottsdale.
Thank you for setting this up.
Kristina, (formerly known as ~Kristina~)
doula and apprentice midwife
Wife to Jesse 8.18.01
Mom to Ayden 12.18.01, Kailey 7.1.03,
Ashlyn 6.11.05, Dylan 9.29.07 & Riley 12.8.09
Happy to do so, Kristina. Those kids should know what an impact their Mom had.
Response from Camelot (please note that she will send a card to Karl with your information if you make a donation):
I am so very touched by your message and desire to memorialize your friend and help our organization. This summer I have experienced some personal losses and was touched by your sharing of Katy's passing. I will be thinking of Karl and their children during their time of mourning.
We do have a process of notifying families - we send a card to the family with the donor's name and address, the gift amount remains confidential. All paypal contributions come to my computer and if there is not a note in the memo section would you like me to email you the donor's name to confirm that they are friends of the family. I would hate for a contribution to accidentally go unmentioned.
In our tack room we have a plaque honoring our student sponsors. Would you like for Katy to be memorialized by an "in memory of Katy Arrington" plate being added in her honor? It truly would be my pleasure to do so. The plaques are proudly displayed and this could be a beautiful and permanent way to recognize and memorialize your friend.
Thank you again for choosing Camelot to honor Katy. I send you and your friends my sincere condolences.

P.S. In my note, I should have put from around the world. Sorry Canadians and Anna.
Another chain of e-mails with Camelot. She will be mounting a plaque honoring Katy in the tack room. Very cool! I will share the photo when she sends.
The honor is mine, I will take a photo of the plaque with her name once it is mounted.

That is very kind of you. I’m not certain what each of our group members will be able to afford but I know we will each be sending something. Hopefully we can make further contributions later in the year once we are past back-to-school season. Your work is inspirational and I am certain Katy would have been touched by the fact that you are helping so many children and adults come to know the love and power of these majestic animals. Even in the throes of recovery from radiation for the brain tumor she was battling, she found a way to make it back up on her horse, Charlie. She was a true inspiration. Thank you again, Mary.
All my best,

The plaque honors our student sponsors. Sponsorship is 2000.00, however, I would love to have Katy's name on the plaque regardless of the amount received. I am touched by your generosity and that you and your friends desire to touch the lives of individuals you will never see. Your action is supporting all our students.
We are a small grass roots organization. Through our services we have the opportunity to give 24 students private weekly hour and a half long lessons. Students will proceed through a demanding curriculum where they will learn all about horse care, safe handling, english and western riding disciplines as well as driving. We are looking to expand our services to include families with autism after the first of the year. At a time when programs are struggling with economic conditions as they are, we are just trying to do more. This will be our 30th lesson year - and all given to students at no cost. This is possible because of our generous community.
When I worry about the bottom line something always reminds me that where there is a will there is a way. Your email is one such reminder. Your creating a ripple by your action, and that ripple will make a difference in many peoples lives. I am honored by your faith in Camelot and would love to recognize your friend by having her name grace our tack room.
Sending names, notes/pictures I've received from kids and moms and 5x7" prints of the two collages off in mail tomorrow with a card to Karl.
That's beautiful Meagan! Thanks so much for doing it!
So clearly some of us need to update our signature pics! Wow our kids are getting big! Is that Alyssa at the bottom? Wow she's gorgeous! Everyone is so grown up!
I wish I could have found a better pic of Dylan. He's giving the peace sign and giving the 'I'm so cool' face. lol
