    Default Weekly Thread June 18th

I figured since I was on, I may as well start a weekly thread!

We're in our 2nd last week and school and I'm looking forward to summer. My daycare will slow down a LOT and I'll be able to go on outings 3 days a week. I'm excited to have days that are not so insane.

Lots of soccer this weekend and Dylan's baseball tournament. Then doing Dylan's small party on Sunday.

    Sam, how was your trip?

    How is everyone else doing?

Sam, thanks for getting us going! Glad to hear your summer won't be so busy with childcare. I'm also curious to hear how SamL's Disney trip went!
Ava's tonsillectomy (adenoids out too) was last week and she's healed up just fine. We're still waiting on pathology result of her one big tonsil. Probably hear today or tomorrow (trying to ignore this).
We started the behavior reward system for the summer yesterday. I think we're getting the hang of it today. The kids are still fighting like cats and dogs, but at least more things are getting done around the house.
Dave and I are going to Firefly Music Festival this weekend. So excited!

I've been wondering about Sam's trip too!!!
ML I NEED to implement something like that too. The fighting is crazy between the 4 of them! What sort of system are you doing?
Sam - glad to hear your daycare will slow down!

Not too much going on here. Just doing all the end of year school stuff. I feel like I have to be at the school every other day from now until the end of next week! And just preparing for Ryan's Minecraft birthday party on Friday night!

Can't imagine still being in school Samantha!!! We on week 3 out here!
Glad all went well with Ava!
I had that run at school too Melissa. I was glad when it was over!

We started craziness this week. Alyssa has dance every day this week, Connor is supposed to be playing baseball but keep getting rained out, and we're having the house painted which is on and off because of rain. I need a day to hang at the pool!! My mom and dad are supposed to take the boys away for a few days next week, but with the weather baseball games have been delayed so who knows. They can only lose 1 more time and they're out. I leave for nationals next Thursday with Alyssa. We're going to hang out on the beach on Friday, then she dances Saturday and Sunday. We come home Monday and have 3 whole days to recover before we head to Minnesota. Fun times never end!!
Brandi, Scott, Alyssa, Connor & Tyler!

Brandi, your schedule makes my head swim! I hope you enjoy the beach and that ball and dance goes well.

Melissa, we use a reward system we learned at an ADHD parent education class in 2011: you turn every behavior into a reward opportunity, and make every privilege cost something. Nothing is free except food, shelter, clothing. Especially reward the behaviors you want to encourage (politeness, helpfulness, caring to sibling are the keywords this summer here). You have to be willing to let some behaviors go without punishment, because the system is heavy on incentive or it won't work. You never take tokens/tickets away. So we have a list of what behaviors earn how many tickets (includes chores, academic work, music practice, reading, etc.), and a "menu" that lists rewards and how much they cost (15m of screen time, movie, having a friend over, trip to milkshake place, stay up 15 minutes later, etc.). It's trial and error at first to get the payment amounts at the right ratio so that they can both spend during the day and then also have some to be saving up longterm (3DS and Kindle Fire are on N's and A's lists as costing the most tickets--we'll see if they can save that many tickets this summer).

There is pushback at first, but we've worked it pretty well every summer. It's parent intensive at first, so you have to be tuned in to give out rewards very frequently. We use a roll of tickets and I write their initial on it in Sharpie and they keep them in their envelope. They turn them back in to "pay" for a reward. HOpe this makes sense.

ML that rewards system sounds really good! But, I think I'd have a hard time following through on things. But it's worth a try for sure. I'm terrified that my kids will kill each other this summer! lol. Hope everything comes back fine with Ava's testing. Let us know please

The minecraft party sounds fun Melissa! I'll have to check that out more. I think he plays it a little bit on his iPod.

Good luck at Nationals Brandi! Hope Alyssa does well. Hope you get your day at the pool soon!

That does sound like an interesting method ML. I was thinking of doing a warm and fuzzy jar this summer. You get the little pom poms from a craft store and the kids each have a jar and everytime they do something nice for another child or something extra and above their normal chores they get a pom and once their jar is full they get to pick a fun event. I like yours too though hmmmmm.... i'm going to have to think this thru! And yes please let us know when you hear Ava's results!

Brandi - man your busy! LOL!!

    HI ladies!
ML that jar is a great idea. You always have such great ways of getting the kids to learn.
Brandi you are so busy with the dance stuff. I hope A remembers this when she is a pro!
Melissa I think I should rent a room at the Middle School! I feel your pain.
Samantha you lucky dog! Daycare slowing down? What is that!?

I am back and the trip was AWESOME! I booked the cruise for my family for May while I was on the ship. They give discounts and shipboard credits plus I get my commission so it was totally worth it. Disney's private island is so beautiful I can't even describe and the ship is stunning and they take care of it so well. They take it seriously so needless to say we didn't have poop running down the walls or fires on board. They even insist you use hand wipes before each meal and there are people dedicated to making sure you do. My kind of ship. Just awesome.

I just got back from Sophia's school. She was awarded the President's Gold Award for Academic Excellence and her award was signed by the President himself!!! I just can't be prouder of her.

Luke's bday party is Sunday. We finally finished picking out our bathroom stuff and will be placing the order today I think. And that is all from here!

Yay! Sounds like loads of fun, Sam!

Ava's pathology showed right tonsil tissue was benign follicular hyperplasia. No lymphoma. Whew. She's feeling back to normal--no pain meds today and we went to the pool for 2 hours.

Dave and I leave for 3 days/2 nights at Firefly Music Fest tomorrow. Can't wait!

Glad you had a great time Sam! But how could you not, right? lol. Disney rules! Yay for Sophia! What a great kid you have raised.

So glad that Ava is ok ML. I didn't know that she was being tested for lymphoma. So scary. Enjoy your weekend away!

We had a busy busy day. Dylan had a baseball tournament, played 2 games. 8:30am and 11:30am. Savannah had soccer at 9am, Dakota at 10am and Dylan at 11am (he played 10 mins and then we had to leave) Luckily I had help from other people. Then Savannah had a bday party from 1-3:30. I am pooped.

Happy Birthday Ryan! Melissa, how was the party?
