A conversation I had with my dad yesterday is really annoying me! So, I thought I would rant here
My dad used to be super close with my mom's parents before they divorced. He was actually closer to them than his own parents. After the divorce, he stopped talking to them because he was an idiot (to put it nicely). However, he has missed my grandmother terribly over the years. With my baby on the way my dad has come to realize he will have to rebuild some sort of communication. Anyway, he called me yesterday and I told him about a 75 birthday party my mom's side of the family is having. I told him my aunt was going to call and invite them. He sounded happy and said if the party was going to be at my grandmothers place he would come. Obviously, if it was at my mom's he would not come and I understand because it would odd.
Then his wife starts interjecting in the back saying, "Oh well, when people don't talk anymore they don't start too again...." and then my dad said, "I know when the baby comes things will change..." and then she started piping in "Yeah, but parents in that situation will throw two parties one for either side..." In other words, one party /event for everyone else and then a party for us TWO. It completely blew my mind that she believes I am going to organize my daughter's life around her inability to function in a civil manner. I got so mad I slipped that I was having a GIRL! I said, "Once my DAUGHTER is born things will be about her and not other people. I will not accommodate one person that has a problem." I basically told her to go to hell and if she has a problem she can stay home.
My dh doesn't understand why it bugs me and thinks I should know by now how irritating she can be. I guess I am sick of always have to think about this. Plus, she always goes on how "morally superior" she is and likes to think of her self as a great person. If that were true she would see how my dad misses his old family. I think she is extremely self-conscious and in some sick way is jealous of my mom which is funny! My mom is the one that left my dad and has been with the same guy for years.
