Braxton Hicks----UGH!!!

Okay the past two days BH contractions have been kicking my butt!!! I had about 7-10 yesterday & today it's been about 5. For the most part they aren't too painful but I've had a couple that will stop me in my tracks & I find myself breathing through them. I read online where if you have more than 4 in an hour to call the OB.....is that about accurate? This is my 4th pregnancy but don't remember having them this often or for them to be painful......

Mine are painful too. I didn't even feel them with my first, so this is new to me. I've found that drinking water really, really helps. If I get dehydrated, they get much worse. As far as calling, I've never thought about it....

Ditto to the drinking water thing. I had them horribly bad with my first pregnancy, not so bad this time yet, but yes they were sometimes painful. I've heard they can get worse with each pregnancy (not sure if that is true at all though) My OB told me last time that if I get more than 5 in an hour or something like that that I should call the office just to be safe. So if you are concerned about the frequency at all, call your dr's office & see what their guidelines are. Hope your uterus starts treating you better Smile

I have had a ton of BH with all three of my pregnancies, starting in the early second trimester. They say call the doc if you have more than 4 in an hour, but I have days I have more than that in 20-30 min. In the past they have never done anything to my cervix, so I usually just keep an eye on them. Some do stop me in my tracks though. I think that the more kids you have the more your body "prepares" ahead of time. Plus running after other kids and go go going all the time does not help. Smile

For what it's worth, my doctor told me 6 in an hour (so every 10 minutes or so) for 2 hours straight I need to call her if I was before 36 weeks.

I did not have them with DD but I have them this time. They are not too terrible yet.

I hope yours are too frequent or too awful!

My dr has never mentioned calling for B&H contractions, so I am no help there.

At my last appointment I mentioned them to my Dr and he said 4 in 1 hour, I need to call.

I don't "remember" getting them with DS but I have had a handful of them with this pregnancy. I also agree on the water thing-- we're coming into the summer months-- water is a good idea period, but I know that as we get into the summer my doctor is going to get hot on my water counts b/c of dehydration (can cause pre-term labor).

My doctor has told me to call if I have more than 5 in an hour. Like so many others have said, water is extremely important. Giving you fluids is the first thing they do if you go into the hospital for contractions or preterm labor.

This is what I was told also.

Oh and they are worse if I have to pee, so when they start I get up and go to the bathroom. If they keep comming I eat and drink something (notice they are worse when my sugar is low) but without fail just like at the end when I try to see if it is "real labor" if I take a walk (like around the block) they stop. If they keep going or stop me in my tracks as I am walking I give them alot more thought.

My hx is from 39 weeks on I have them every 8-12 min for 2 weeks, but when active labor starts I am already 4cm and by time they get 5min apart and painful so I have to breath and can't talk during them, my labors are 4 hours long. LOL so am I in labor for 2 weeks or 4 hours????

I've been having lots too, but only a couple have been so bad that I have to breathe through them. I did get lots like that at the end of my preg with dd though. I find I get them when I have been really busy or active, get dehydrated, or have to pee really bad.
My dr never gave me a number to watch out for. He just said to call if they didn't stop when I laid down and drank some water. :dontknow:

I'm totally clueless... I know not everybody feels them, but would it be one of those things that I'd "know it if I felt it"?

I totally understand how you feel, because with my first pregnancy, I never felt a single one. I remember one appointment and my MW was saying "see, you are having one now" and I just shrugged. I couldn't feel a thing and never did with that pregnancy.
Unfortunately, this pregnancy is different and everytime I have a BH, there is a portion of my abdomen muscles that cramps painfully. So, I definately feel these "contractions".

BH can be felt from the outside by feeling your abdomen muscles. If your whole tummy is tight and hard it is because those muscles are "contracting". It is not quite like real contractions, but is kind of like your body is prepping for real labor.

Hmm...well, my tummy sometimes does get hard and I feel like a "rolling" through, and usually when I look down, one side is sticking out farther than the other. I thought this was baby moving around, but maybe it's a BH? It doesn't hurt at all though. My MW felt my tummy at our last appointment and said, "Oh my, it's rock hard!" but didn't mention BH.
