How did you meet your DH/SO? How long have you been together?
DH instant messaged me through AOL as a random single female that he found a profile on, he had messaged others as well. That was in Jan 1999. Our first date was in Feb 1999. We were engaged in Oct 1999. We married in July 2001 (after I finished grad school.
We met through eharmony. He sent me an ice breaker in March and I didn't reply until May (LOL) He says till this day he doesn't know why he never closed the communication after I never responded. We made it official June 20th of last year but started talking in May 2010 (less than a year ago)
Dh is from Arizona, but for a few years his mom ended up taking a job up in Chicago and they moved to the 'burbs. We ended up working together at a local hardware store, we were 15. (not to sound stuck up) he really had a thing for me but I had a boyfriend and "was in love" and couldn't be bothered so I didn't pay much attention outside of "just friends". Well my "in love" boyfriend and I broke up and I really started to like DH.. We hung out a few times after work but that was really about it. Well my end of the crush developed quite quickly but since I'm not one to act on things, and since I had shut him down a few times he wasn't about to jump the gun either.. Then he ended up having to move back to Arizona after his mom took a job back down there when he was 16. Naturally we lost touch (before email and cell phones were popular!) That was back in end of 2001/02?. In January of 2006, I got an email on myspace (yes myspace! hah!) from a guy with his name with the subject of "I don't know if you remember me.." and then the email went on to talk about how we worked together and he was hoping that this was me (I didn't have my real name on there, just a nick name..). He was doing his first deployment and we ended up emailing/talking his ENTIRE deployment and when he came home in November 2006 he came to see me.. after all those years haha! Well we naturally started dating right away we got "engaged" in Feb of 2007 and I moved out to be with him in Colorado (where he was stationed for the military) in May of 2007 and we were married by August 2007 I suppose you could say we rushed into things, but during his deployment and all our talking there was A LOT of talk about marriage and what not so we both kind of knew that's where all this was going haha!
Anyway, that's my really long story!
I never get excited about telling people about how we met. I always find it tacky... at a club In Montreal, the drinking age is 18 and people start going out very early.
In November of 2002 my best-friend had a horrible 18th birthday, so we decided to celebrate it again. So in December, all our group of girlfriends got together and went to a club to celebrate. We were partying and drinking quite a bit and a guy asked me to dance. He was 18 and I was 17. Little did I know that he would be my future DH and father of my child!
I gave him my number and he called me a couple of days later and asked if I would like to meet up. I wasn't sure if I was interested, but I thought, "What the hell I'll give him a chance!" Anyway, we went to see a movie and after the movie spent hours talking. I remember after that day we would talk hours and hours on the phone. We got close really fast. I knew very early on that my dh was the one. I went through a lot of problems when my parents divorced and without him I don't think I would be the same person today.
We have been together for 8 years. People ask us why we didn't get married earlier, but honestly we did everything else besides that. We were basically acting like a married couple at the age of 18 when we first moved in together. We have always thought of each other as 'married' in a sense?
Me and 3 of my girlfriends were driving around, bored out of our minds when we saw 4 other cute guys get into a car, we were bored, and thought they were cute so we decided to follow them.....they noticed after a few minutes and pulled into a parking lot, we didnt bother pulling into the parking lot and kept driving as we were getting bored with that, but they decided to follow us, so we lead them around our small town and then ended up at the beach, we ended up hanging out for almost the entire night, towards the end we were getting ready to call it a night when my 3 girlfriends and 3 of the guys piled into my car and locked the doors (i guess travis told his guy friends that he thought i was cute, but was to shy to talk to me, so they decided to help him out) so travis and i ended up talking in his car for about an hour or so, i hadnt really talked much to him the entire night because he was sooooo quiet, but i really liked talking to him and was hoping he would ask for my contact info, but he didnt!! Luckily my friend mandi got contact info for one of the other guys and the next day travis added me to MSN, we started talking.....and the rest is history! We have been together for 7 years, lived together for 6 and married for 2 years in june!
DH and I met our freshman year of high school, but didn't start dating until between our junior/senior year. We got married the year after we graduated, and haven't looked back!
ETA: Forgot to say we've been together for almost 9 years, and we celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary in January.
DH and I have been together for almost 13 years. My EDD is our 7th wedding anniversary:D
Robyn, I think my story is tackier then yours!
We met through mutual friends at a party when I was 17 and he was 19. Back then we were both big partiers, so we actually met over a bong... (I will just point out that we have not done any drugs in years now) I sure never would have guessed that we would be together for so long! Anyways, we really hit it off and hung out a few times, but he never really made a move. So, I did! I asked him out, which I still won't let him forget.
It still seems weird to us that we are still together, even though we have changed so much. The first few years of our relationship we drank a lot and did drugs. Now we are responsible and married, with our 2nd on the way. Weird!
You never know when you will meet your sweetheart I just wish I had a better story to tell my children. I guess I will leave out being very intoxicated and underage We were not responsible when we were young. Who is? We lived together at 18 and I think back at how not ready I was to live on my own!
In July 2004, I started a new job at a new company. I was the supervisor of approx 25 people (shift production workers at a refinery), DH was one of them - this is how we met. He was married at the time and I was engaged to someone else.
He went through a divorce and transferred into maintenance - a straight days M-F job because he was awarded custody of his kids. As a maintenance employee he was assigned back to my department but no longer directly reporting to me. One day he called to ask me a question and he started the conversation by saying "hey sexy" (just joking around). But the jokes turned to flirting and conversation. This was summer of 07. We started dating the end of Aug 07 but kept our relationship a secret. We were engaged in the spring of 08 and married in Oct of 08.
A mutual friend introduced us in June of 2003. He was a VERY committed bachelor with lots of lady "friends". He says he met me and knew instantly he'd marry me (he even called his mom who confirmed this story years later). Two weeks after meeting (July 4th weekend) he asked me to be exclusive (which pissed off a lot of women and caused quite the drama at the time). I was just a senior in highschool at the time so we dated that full year then moved in together when I went to college (I went to the college he was already attending) in May of 2004. He proposed in Dec of 2005 and we married in April of 2007.
Technically, I was introduced to DH the first weekend I arrived in Italy. He was stationed there, and I was nannying for a military family.
I ended up seeing him again several months later at a softball game... I was there with one of the guys on the other team. DH & the guy at the ball game both had the same first name, so the lady I nannied for spent a few weeks asking, "Is this David P. or David S.?" when I got phone calls, but it didn't take long for me to drop the other guy!
we met when i transfered to a new college in 2001. We lived in a private dorm off campus and i was on a co-ed floor. He lived next to me. I always saw him studying or working out and called him 'the cute boy' for awhile, cuz i forgot his name!!
We ended up talking one day and then he always came to my room (i didn't have a roommate) and we hung out. We went to a party at his friends house and while walking there he held my hand.
We were insepratable sine then...... after we both finished college, we got engaged in October 2004 and we married in March 2006. We just celebrated 5 yrs.
Crazy to think that in September we'll be together for 10 years!!! wow...
It's so new it makes me smile.
I was just divorced (It will be a year May 5th) But the judge said I had to stay in GA until Peter was done with school for the year. June 13th we went to church in GA one last time, and on the Monday my family flew down packed me up and on the Tuse we drove me 3 kids and as much stuff as we could back to NY. My friend and my kids went in my mini van and we drove all night. On the Wed we unpacked and slept, on the Thurs she asked my dad to watch my kids so she could take me out. We where going to meet up with some other old highschool friends but seeing as it was a Thursday night and they had to work we where unable to get out for happy hour and did not go out until 8:30 after putting the toddlers to bed. So I was like I know of a small bar that dose karokiee tonight and we can get good sit down food not just bar stuff while we drink and she said ok.
The place was packed and we needed a cover to get in. But the bouncer said we could use the ATM inside and come back to the door to pay him. While at the ATM I saw the back of Bill's head. Amiee wanted to sit at the bar and I was like nope lets go over here (the table next to Bil's was empty) All night I check him out when I could (my back was to him) and about 90 min in to our out time Amiee said "Glasses" is checking you out. I was like Ok lets see if he is our not and got up and went to the barthroom and yup he followed me the entire way. After his "friend" went back to the hotel (they where in town only the one night for Army training) and we stayed up until 2am talking. At the end Amiee took his pic and told him she needed his facebook account so she could tag him! LOL the next day I made him a friend too and we have been talking ever since.
But you see he is in VT and in the army and I was not even officaly divorced 2 months so I was thinking he would be a friend with bennifits when he came to town. LOL little did I know that was not his plan and he was a gentelman and we talked often and he asked me out on Sept 11th for our first Date. How do you tell a guy in the army no on Sept 11th (I thought it would be a good story and I just knew that night. We talked nightly after that and for our first month anerversery (oct 10th) I went to VT to see him and here I am almost 30 weeks prego. (you do the math)
I LOVE reading these!
Wish my story was cute or exciting, but Ryan & I met on match.com. It took a little while for us to actually meet up & I was slightly exhausted after our first conversation (he chattered & chattered the whole time & the call lasted about 20 minutes, tops), lol. I spoke to him again a few nights later & it was wonderful...we talked for 3 hours, then he asked me out. I will never forget the second I laid eyes on him the next night. He was the one I had been dreaming about all this time We've had a few bumps, for sure, but have come such a long way since I found out I was pregnant. I realize that everything we've been through, no matter how unnecessarily painful it all seemed, was what brought us to this...and I wouldn't change "this" for anything in the world
Dh and I went to the same small college. I'm sure that we saw each other some our Freshman year, but I never really noticed him until our second year. We had a class together and he always sat next to my roommate. I asked my roommate if she was interested in him or something and she said no, so I started watching him a lot more. My group of friends started hanging out with his group of friends. A few weeks later he asked me out to a banquet that he was given free tickets to. I said yes (much to my roommates surprise) and I pretty much knew that night that I was going to marry him. We dated for about five months then we were engaged for about seven months and married at the end of 2000. We have had a great marriage and have three great kids now and our little surprise on the way.
