Pepto Bismol

I called a pharamacist and asked what I could take for gastro. He recommended Pepto Bismol, so I took it. Now, I am looking on the internet and a lot of people say it is unsafe??? Did I harm my baby?

I know milk of magnesia is safe.

I know you're not supposed to take it unless your doctor tells you so. When I was sick, my doctor specifically told me not to take it. But I also had taken it a few times before realizing I was pregnant (I couldn't understand why I was so nauseous all the time!) and my doctor said it was no biggie and not to worry about the things you already did.

Since you've already taken it, I would probably call my doctor and ask what's the best thing to do. I'm willing to bet they will just suggest not taking it again.

My doctor recommended Emetrol. It helped me when I had the gastro stuff. It has very few ingredients and was on the safe to take list that I got from two different doctors. Don't worry about the pepto. What's done is done and there is no use worrying over it. Our bodies are really good at protecting these little ones!

I can't believe a pharmacist would recommend the wrong thing ... oh wait I can believe it Wink When I had gastro in December I couldn't keep water down, so I didn't take medication. Needless to say I ended up in the hospital suffering from dehydration. They hooked me up to a bag and dripped Gravol into the IV.

I ended up in the hospital also with dehydration. The emetrol worked, but we ran out as there were three of us that were sick all at the same time. After that I started puking again and got dehydrated. I think if I could have taken one or maybe two more doses I might have been able to keep things down. I hope you are feeling better.

I'm sorry you had to go to the hospital too! I took Tylenol a little while ago and started to actually feel better. My stomach is aching a little, but I can deal with! I just had a little bit of a nature bar and it has stayed down so far...
