For the last week or so Lucas has suddenly started drooling and spitting up (normally it's rare for him to spit up), and gnawing on his hands when he can get them to his mouth. I noticed today a little while spot on his lower gums and I can feel a swollen spot on his gums! WTH! Isn't 3 months a bit early to be getting a tooth?
In other news, he had his appts with the urologist and physical therapist today. The urologist said his hypospadias is mild and he won't need surgery! We can have it done for cosmetic purposes and insurance will cover it since it's a birth defect, but we've opted to not have it done.
The physical therapist doesn't think he has torticollis, just a bad habit of always looking to the right...hence his bad flat spot and oddly shaped head. She gave us some exercises to do during tummy time to help him strengthen his neck and shoulder muscles and recommended we put him in a helmet to correct his flat spot and round his head out. His is very pronounced and obvious when you look at his head so we're going to go ahead and do it. Insurance will cover 80% of it, but it will still be between $200-$600 out of pocket The earliest they can do it is 3 months and since he's there now, she recommends starting now and hopefully he won't have to be in it more than 3-4 months. He'll have to wear it 23 hours a day. I have to wait for the referral to go through and once it does we can call for an appt. She said some babies develop a habit of looking to one side and flat spot inutero depending on how they're positioned so they are born with that preference and it's hard to break them of it.
