16 weeks??????

So I saw my Dr for the first time today, as he has been away, and he insists that I am only 16 weeks along, and is sending me for a dating ultrasound instead of my big one, cause he doesnt believe I am far enough along. When I told him when my last period was, he actually said 'Oh, so you are a lot further along.....if thats right'. I was not impressed, and he's got me kind of worried now about measuring so small...at least I can be pretty sure there is only one baby in there :/

He also wants me to eat an extremely low carb diet due to having gestational diabetes last time. I am not convinced that is the best thing for the baby.....I will have to do some research. Im not impressed though, cause last time my Dr had sent me to the diabetes clinic by now......of course he doesn't really believe I am that far along.

He is sending me to get my blood tested again though, and including a few extra tests as well, like iron and thyroid because I complained about being tired. One thing he has always been good at is sending me for any tests I think I should get Smile

I feel like he is treating me like an idiot about being pregnant though. He went on about how women here (he is from south Africa) eat too many carbs and thats why we have such big babies and with GD I will have a huge baby and all sorts of complications. If he had bothered to check my file he would have seen that I was completely diet controlled with my other pregnancies and that neither of my other babies were huge, and neither the babies or I had any complications.

Thanks for listening to all my complaints if you made it this far. I am off to research this no carb thing. Hope things get better from here.

Are there any other docs in your area that you have considered? Why does he think that you are only 16 weeks?

Unfortunately, you cant change Dr's here, no one else will take me except the OB if I get referred to him, which will only happen if I have complications.

The Dr I have now took over my old Dr's practice when she retired last year, and I have always liked him before this, so hopefully things will turn around once we are both on the same page about my dates. At least I wont have to worry about being induced if he thinks I am a month less pregnant than I am Smile

He basically felt where my uterus was, and thought I was not as far along. But he did listen to the heartbeat and say it sounded very strong and healthy.

Well hopefully thing will get better. When will your dating u/s be? I will be curious to hear what they have to say. How far along did you think you were when you got your BFP?

I hope you get it all worked out. Maybe you can ask him to look at your chart and see how you did with your other pregnancies, then he might listen a bit better. Have fun sneaking a peek at your dating u/s!

My doc didn't even start to measure me until this past appointment at 20 weeks, I think it is weird that he measured you and decided that you were behind without even having an ultrasound first

You said he's been out of town, have there been other doctors or practitioners in this practice you've been seeing? At nearly 20 weeks I'd assume you'd have seen someone. And I would find it suspicious if he doesn't trust his fellow associates on what they would have told you up to this point...KUP!

Well, I have only been once before to his fill in Dr, and he didnt measure me, just trusted my dates.

I am beginning to wonder if my Dr and I just dont communicate well. I went to get my blood drawn today, and he had included my GD test in it, which wouldn't normally be done until after 20 weeks. I also did some research on low carb diets while pregnant, and it is actually totally safe in the later half of pregnancy, (oddly enough, can lead to a baby who gains weight easier if done early on).

So, now I am wondering if this really is just going to be a dating ultrasound, or if it is actually my big one. I am so confused :/
