So I am torn about what to do as far as the birth goes. My other 2 children were born in OR with a midwife in a hospital, which I loved. Except with my DS I got an epidural and it wore off after an hour and he was posterior which made it feel like someone was breaking my back. After he was born I had horrible back issues/headaches from the epi and now 6.5 years later I still have a tender spot on my back from having one. Now we live in MN and there are only OB?s here, which I have never had. I do not like a lot of things about how OB?s go about the birth process. So my only other choice is a homebirth with a midwife, which I am open to, since the midwife here is someone I actually apprenticed under as a student midwife. I have seen/helped many women labor and birth at home and I am very familiar with the process, BUT I don?t know if I am strong enough to do it?.. Does that make sense? For example with my other 2 kiddos I basically dilated to 6 cm and was 80-100% effaced before any kind of uncomfortable contractions came. Whenever I got to the hospital I got an epi before there was really any real pain, so I have never pushed my body to go through labor pains, so I am not even sure what it is like. SO>>>>> My options are continue on with the OB that I am seeing and labor in a hospital with no epi ( I don?t want to chance have the pain and issues again) be strapped to monitors and told what to do which is 100% covered by our insurance and will cost $500 out of pocket. OR>>>>> Go with the midwife option have a water birth at home, be able to labor how my body needs, (but still be scared of the unknown pain) which is only 20% covered by insurance and will cost $2,240 out of pocket.
There are pros and cons to each and I just don?t know gah!!!! Opinions????
