gross potty moments with DD

This is me venting. I will be talking about DD and her pooping issues so read no further if you don't want to hear about this.

DD is 3.5 she has been pee trained since 2.5 and poop trained in September. There was a period of time that she didn't want to poop in a diaper or on the potty before September. We changed her diet to lots of fiber and started giving her a tablespoon of flaxseed oil a day. She always waited until she was at home to poop in a diaper. She would go at least once every 2-3 days, so not enough for constipation and laxatives but it was worrisome. Then in Sept, just before she started preschool, she just went on the potty like it was no big deal. We have a sticker chart and give her a Hershey's kiss for going. She still would not go anywhere but at home, and holds it in if she gets the urge to go at school but she was going every 1-2 days, so we thought things were okay. Fast forward to last week. She kept holding it in and we realized on Saturday the last time she went was on Tuesday. We were at a friend's house overnight but it was clear she had to go. I sat with her for 30 minutes and so did DH. She refused to go. We got home on Sunday and figured she would go, instead she got a stomach bug and vomited all over me and herself (gross). I thought, well, at least she'll get the runs and let it go, but no dice. She felt much better on Monday so we called the doctor's office for advice. At this point it had been 6 days. They said to give her a dose of Miralax. We did at about 3pm. She almost went before bedtime but managed to hold it in. At 10pm she wakes me up saying she has to poop. I pull down her pants in the bathroom, she had already pooped, I had to do gross cleanup, change the sheets, start some laundry, etc. I get her back to bed. 12:45am, she does it again. This time she thought she had pooped in her bed so she got toilet paper and put the poop in the potty. I go into the bathroom and she has put her stuffed cow in the toilet, that she loves to sleep with. No poop in the potty or the bed, just some in her pants. Another round of cleanup. Crying because she can't sleep with cow. Then DH proceeds to wake me up with snoring at 1:30am, 3am and 4:30am. Needless to say, I did not go to work today. DD was given flax seed oil again (and will be for awhile). I hate that she has control issues about this but I have to act like it's no big deal or we will be in even more of a power struggle. So I am grumpy and I will be taking a great nap today as she is at daycare. Crazy times in this house. It's going to get better, right?

Ugh. That sounds like a disaster. Glad you could stay home today. Did you get a nap? And I hope this can get her more on a regular schedule!

John had salmonella in the summer of '10 and that was also a terrible experience. Not only was it EVERYWHERE, but everything it touched had to be washed or disinfected. So I definitely sympathize!

I did take a nap today and am feeling better. Thanks! I just hope DD gets on a regular schedule. I also washed all the sheets, blankets and mattress pads for her bed.

Ugh, that sounds horrible, and in the middle of the night too. Good thing you love her so much, right? Wink My DS is having a hard time potty training, or just taking a very long time to get there. He is 3 today and basically not even close. He HATES pooping on the potty, although I think he is getting close to being pee trained. But I said that 6 months ago...Glad you are feeling better and I hope she is too!
