Hospital Bags

Okay, I'm getting impatient waiting for time to pass Blum 3 I need something to occupy my mind in the mean time. So I've decided to start writing my lists for the hospital bags and diaper bag, and possibly start packing things if I don't need them on a day to day basis.........

So what does everyone pack in their Hospital Bags and Diaper Bags??

I'm still working on mine, but so far, I have 3 bags in mind. (I'll post a more detailed list after I'm done writing it out)

- Hospital Bag for me (Labor bag, shower bag, and anything else I might need while at the hospital or when going home)

- Hospital Bag for Baby (Going Home outfits, and a few other clothes for baby while in the hospital (I hate the hospital clothes) plus a few extra outfits......(I like to play dress up with baby while we wait to be discharged), and anything else he might need while in the hospital)

- Diaper Bag for when we leave the hospital

Looking for ideas for pain relief during labor and anything else I might forget to pack.

As at FTM I love this thread. Maybe we can all contribute and make it a sticky??

This may sound naive since I really have no idea on what to expect, but I was just planning on putting baby's stuff in my bag. All I have on my list are a few outfits (including coming home outfit), mittens, hat and blanket. I wasn't planning on bringing diaper bag since we live 5 min from hospital. DH is also planning on going home to shower and let the dog out so I have a little extra room in my bag. I'm only putting in a change of clothes and sweatshirt for him, along with a few snacks.

I never really bring anything for the baby. The hospital provides diapers, blankets, toques, and sleepers, but since I prefer a lot of skin on skin with baby the first few weeks, we just put baby in a diaper and blanket in the hospital. Also, it is tradition that Daddy buys the first (coming home) outfit, and since we dont know what we are having, that will have to wait until after baby is born.

The only things I put in for DH are his swim suit (in case he comes in the shower with me) and a few snacks.

I am only bringing one bag - don't need much for baby, maybe an outfit, but since we don't know the sex or what the weather will be like (its been anywhere from 50 - 80 degress the past few weeks!) I may just have my mom buy one and wash it and bring it to the hospital.
Also since i am having a c-section don't need anything for labor...

so I am bringing:
- breast pump (DH will actually keep thisin the car until needed)
- boppy pillow (DH will actually keep thisin the car until needed)
-baby book
-gift for DS "from new baby"
-nursing PJ's /robe
-nursing tank tops
-nursing bras
-many granny panties - preferably with a wasitband that will not interfer / irritate by incision
-thick socks with grips like slippers
-maternity leggins
- sweatsuit type outfit to go home in
-video camera
-camera
-phone and camera chargers
- make-up mirror
-hair straightenter
-make up (I am vain and need to apply my make up while in recovery so when people take pics of me and baby I look pretty!)
-toothbrush, paste, soap, shower stuff, brush, combs, etc
-photo of DH, Ds and I to put in baby's bassinet

Baby’s Hospital Bag

(All Clothes in NB & 0-3 Month Sizes)
Going Home Outfit
Onesies
Sleepers
Gowns
Outfits (2-3 pairs)
Socks
Hats
Mittens
Bibs

Diapers
Wipes (My hospital doesn't provide these. They just give us these little clothes that you get wet and they are slightly soapy, that you throw away afterwards)
Blanket
Receiving Blankets
Swaddle Blankets
Pacifiers
Pacifier Clip

Bath Bag
- Shampoo
- Lotion
- Baby Wash
- Vaseline
- Diaper Rash Cream
- Nail Clippers
- Comb
- Brush
- Tylenol

Car Seat
Head Support
Diaper bag

I like to play dress up with baby while we wait to go home. Its also a good time to figure out what he's going to fit (NB, 0-3 months) so I bring several outfits, sleepers, and onesies in different sizes to try on him. I also find it easier to change baby in the hospital with a baby gown on, so I'll bring several of those because the hospital clothes are hideous.

I then pack the diaper bag with whatevers left over before leaving the hospital so that I'm prepared for whatever. I don't necessarily use everything that I pack for baby, (like all the bath bag stuff, diapers etc) but its there to pack into the diaper bag that I'll be carrying around every day after that.

I am not bringing anywhere near all that stuff! I packed too much last time I felt like. Just bringing one bag, with a change of clothes for me, snacks and drinks for me and DH, going home outfit, dipes and a onesie and blanket for the baby. Last time, people (my parents, sister, DH etc.) were making so many trips from our house to the hospital and back that they could bring anything I needed that we didn't have. I felt like we way overpacked and we acted like our hospital bag was our ONE CHANCE to have everything we needed, which was not the case at all. So definitely lightening up this time, especially since "stuff" was a delaying factor last time when I was caught by surprise by labor and it going faster than we expected.

Yeah, I understand that. I used to pack a whole different bag for my husband (extra clothes, toiletries, snacks, drinks, entertainment etc.) He never used any of it though and always went home periodically anyways, or went and got food. So I decided to not pack anything for him. Me on the other hand.....I'm picky and DH never brings the right things that I want. So I'd rather have what I want on hand. Plus we don't live that close to the hospital, so I'd rather not be sending him back n forth all the time.

That's kind of how I feel. DH will be going home to shower and let out the dog, so I'm not packing much for him. But I'd rather pack too much and not need something, than underpack and wish I had something I left at home. Right now everything fits in a carry-on suitcase, so I don't feel like I'm "moving in."

Can I say once again how much I love this thread?? This has really helped me get things I need on my list to hear from BTDT mamas.

I am on the side of minimalism as well. But we live about 3 blocks from the hospital, so it isnt hard for me to get anything I find I need, and I like to labour at home, so we have never even got the bag open before the baby comes in the past.

My bag looks something like this:

Candy (takes up the majority of the room Lol
Shower stuff, toothbrush, brush
Some granola bars
PJ's that I never wear Smile
Swim suit for DH in case we go in the shower
Phone
Camera
Batteries
A book in case of an extended stay (can only stare at sleeping baby so long)
Ummmm.....thats about it Smile

You are way ahead of me and I am a week ahead of you Wink I have packed nothing. I did manage to finally get some baby gear out of storage and clean/wash it. The swing is set up in the living room and we have the bouncer ready to go (both need batteries though...so I guess I'm not even done with that stuff). I did wash and put away most of the baby clothes we have (but they are in DS' room and he keeps taking the baby clothes out of drawers and off shelves and unfolding them and stuffing them in random places...grrr), I still need to do a load of swaddlers and blankets. Still need to rearrange my bedroom and make room for the cosleeper and rocking chair. We decided not to put the carseat in yet and just have it ready in the bed of the truck (it has a cover) in case I need the backseat while in labor on our 40 min drive to the hospital. We'll have 2 days to get it installed before we go anywhere with the baby anyway.

My doctor is talking about inducing me the last week of June....so I most likely won't make it to July. I have the pack n play set up and my bags packed. Other then that I don't have anything ready. All the clothes are still on hangers with tags or still in packages. I'm scared to open them......*sigh* I did open the receiving blankets.....so that's a start I guess.
