itchy

My skin is sooooooooooooo itchy. Every night as I change into my pjs I itch and itch. I am using lots of lotion (and it is supposed to be good stuff that doesn't cause a reaction and I have tried switching to several kinds). I think this is a pregnancy symptom but do you have any relief suggestions? Thanks!

*lurker*

If you are itchy on your belly only it could be PUPP but everywhere it could be cholestasis (although I do believe that cholestasis doesnt start until the third trimester). I had cholestasis with my twins and its hell. I would talk to your doctor. If its either, there is rememdies to help. I was put on medication for my Cholestasis (although it didnt help me and I had to deliver early anyway). The only relief I got was a luke warm bath and coating myself in calamine lotion. I would talk to your doc though because if it is Cholestasis they will make you deliver early (not to scare you or anything, its probably not this as its very rare, something like 1% of pregnancies).

I had no idea what cholestasis is but I looked it up: http://www.americanpregnancy.org/pregnancycomplications/cholestasispregnancy.html

The good news is I am not itchy on my hands or feet, nor do I have any of the other symptoms. It sounds awful though, sorry you had that. i am itchy particularly on my torso.

It could be PUPP or just the stretching of the skin causing the itching, talk to your doc. Despite the cause, itching sucks and I feel you pain. Try bath/calamine or aveeno cream, only things that brought some relief. Hoping you find some sort of relief. Good Luck.

I know itchy skin can be just another pregnancy symptom. My belly is itchy just because the skin is getting stretched (same with my boobs). I use straight cocoa butter on it Smile I also have noticed some dry skin patches cropping up here and there that are also itchy. I think it just is part of pregnancy. Itchier skin is common and normal. Always worth asking your doc if you are worried though.

yes for me the cholistasis started on the palms of my hands and bottoms of my feet...but quickly spread all over my body. With my last pregnancy this was the ONLY symptom...with the pregnancy before that...I had every symptom you can find....AWFUL! PUPP is usually manifested with a rash...isnt it? Otherwise...its probably just stretching skin! I use what most ladies use for the normal itching...for the cholistasis...its a waste of time...nothing works (well at least for me)!!!
