This kind of made me laugh

I was talking to another teacher at school who is pregnant with her first kid. She is due at the end of May and I asked her if she was planning on coming back to work in the fall. Her answer: "Of course I am, I can't imagine just sitting around at home all day".
OMG is this what some people think that SAHM moms do? I was a SAHM for 5 years and went back to work because I needed a break and in many ways it is easier to be at work than to "just sit around."
Who knows maybe I thought that way too back before my first was born. I know I was clueless as to the true meaning of sleep deprivation and I briefly tried to explain this to her but I could tell she thought I was over exaggerating.

I think many people think that! I knew it would be work but it's still harder than I imagined. Yes, there is down time but when I'm "working" (cleaning, laundry, cooking, etc, all while watching over mt child) the work feels like it takes more out of me than any job I've ever had. Plus, spending a day with an opinionated toddler is tiring in and of itself!!!

Yeah I think the "sitting around" part was a little much! However, for people like my sister, she couldn't STAND being in her house, day after day, she's a really active personality and found that she was much happier while working. I'm in between, I work part-time (technically, since it's less than 40 hrs/week) because I love what I do, but I'm also happy I get to take care of things at home.

Anyway, bottom line, she sounds like she was being holier-than-thou, which is not nice, but always a little funny coming from a FTM. Smile

Hahaha!
It always makes me laugh when people woh have no children make comments about parenting - this is very similar...
I am sure she will feel differently at some point! Personally i wanted to stay home after my 1st but it was not in the cards for us financially, and going back to work was the HARDEST things EVER! I think most moms feel that way...

Though - I am sure i said many stupid things to others before i became a mommy myself!
