Nursing frequency?

*Lurker from Aug board*
Dd was born July 30 and is a good nurser. The mostly feeds approx every 2.5 -3 hours. How often are you guys finding your lo's are nursing? She seems to go longer during the day between feeds than at night.
I think I might be jumping gun and assuming it is hunger when efforts at other comforting don't work. That said - she always eats when I do offer it to her (she has gone from 7 pounds 11 oz June 30 to 8 pounds in 10 days).

I am nursing about every 2 hours daily and 2 or 3 or if I am lucky 4h at night. We were in the NICU for a week and the nurses suggested we not go more than 3h during the day to get her to do the longer stretches at night. For the past few days I noticed she is doing some cluster feeding in the evening, eating closer to 1.5h apart and then doing some 3 and 4h stretches. That also could be a growth spurt... sounds like you are doing well.

Every 2-3 hours sounds about right to me. Trent often nurses more often than that. It sounds like your DD might have her days and nights mixed up. A gentle way to help her get them right (sleep more at night and less during the day) is to treat naps different then bedtime. For us that means keeping the blinds open during the day so the room is brighter, and not swaddling for naps. And keeping everything dark at night (even for bum changes), swaddling, and interacting as little as possible with baby at night. So no talking or playing, just snuggles and nursing. It seems to be working for us. Trent even did a 4 hour stretch the other night.

Sounds normal to me. Does it just feel more frequent at night because you are tired maybe? Still 1-2 hours during the day here, which I'll take because he goes 4-5 hours at night.

Thanks! I am reassured that you guys are experiencing some of this too. Sadly our feedings really are this frequent. last night the longest stretch was 2.5 hours between feeds. During the day we rarely make it past 3 hours between feedings - often 2-2.5. It could just be her and what she needs right now. I will see how it goes over he mex little while and report back / check in for more thoughts! DS was a horrible sleeper but I don't remember him being a particularly frequent feeder - but I remember him eating more each session than dd does. Dd will go to sleep after one side and then purse her lips shut. DS
Did 1.5-2 breasts every feeding.
