Protein in Urine...UPDATE : (

so I had my 28 week appt today... all is well - weight gain on track, passed my 3 hour diabetes test, BUT in my last 2 appts I have had higher levels of protein in my urine - since it is 2 times in a row Dr. is making me do a blood test and a 24 hour urnie collection! I am a little nervous about what this could mean - my blood pressure is always low as it was today so I doubt pre-eclampsia...
But i have been having lower back and abdominal pain all day - I had it 3 weeks ago and Dr. tested me for pre term labor and it came up negative so he did not even aknowledge my pain today as something of concern...

but it is concerning me - If it gets worse or does not go away i think I will go to ER

anyone know what Protein in my urine could mean? Possibly related to the pain?
Dr. said it could mean nothing or something with my kidneys...

UPDATE (4/26/12)
So I did the 24 hour urine collection (pain had subsided)
Saw my Dr. today and he said the results of protein in my urine are SKY HIGH! Normal range is less than 150mg and my number is 840!!!! He had to do a triple take on the number!
So he is making me do another 24 hour urine collection tomorrow and go for a speical sonogram the next day - wants both results ASAP.
I asked what this could mean - he says it could mean that the pregnancy is preventing my kidneys from functioning. I do not know (or he did not mention) if this is the same thing as pre-eclampsia. But i asked what this could mean he says that he will deliver the baby sooner. I asked "sooner as in this week (30 weeks) or like 38 weeks?" He said much sooner than 38 weeks - but that will be determined by the results of this 24 hour urine collection - I guess he wants to see how much worse my number gets over the course of a week - and that risk compared to the size / health of the baby...
He did not mention anything as far as resting or changing my diet or anything i can do until I get the results bnack - which should be around Tuesday May 1st... just that I do have to see Dr. every week and he will be watching me very closely from here on out... I asked how concered he was and he said on a scale of 1-10 he is a 6...
I have running around and had company over tonight since the appt this after noon so have not had too much time to be upset by this - but I am sure as morning comes I will be very nervous...

this is totally superficial but DH's sister is getting married on May 12th about 3 hours from where i live and i am maid of honor - I really hope that all is well enough for me to still attend the wedding...I guess I am focusing on this superficial thing instead of worrying about what this all really could mean b/c I am scared....
at this point I am just praying to be able to keep this baby baking until at least 35 weeks or so...

I think it means you could have a UTI. The good news is that antibiotics will clear it up. If your glucose is normal then it shouldn't be pre-eclampsia. If you are having kidney pain the infection could have spread to your kidneys. Let us know how things work out.

For me in my first pregnancy it meant preeclampsia and my sugar levels where fine. I had to do several 24hr urine tests. I vaguely remember pain but can't be certain if it was back or stomach pain. I do remember lots of headaches. My blood pressure was barely over the acceptable level to below it for many weeks in spite of protein in my urine but suddenly my last two weeks it spiked.

Yeah, I was thinking UTI. Hope you get it cleared up whatever it is.

*lurker* There is a mommy on June board "Sometimes" that has experience with this....she is currently in the hospital for it and had it with her first I think. Maybe you should contact her??? She is super nice.

Pre-eclempsia is high BP, which is what Sometimes has and also causes protein in the urine, but if your BP is still normal (is it?), I don't think it's pre-e. I assume they also looked for bacteria which would indicate a UTI. How odd, I've never heard of a pregnancy causing kidneys to stop working! Maybe it was a fluke? Hopefully this next test is better and it will be OK. KUP!

Yeah - my BP is totally fine - the Dr. never mentioned Pre-E.... so I dont know if that is what he is thinking it could turn into or is it something else (kideneys failing)
I left a message with his office this morning and waiting on a call back for some follow up questions...

it is so hard not to worry! I am being a bad mommy today and letting DS watch movies all day b/c I am just so concered and can't concentrate on anything else.... I just can't wait for DH to get home from work - his presence is always calming for me...

..also tomorrow night is my SIL's bachelorette party - held at my house! Only 4 girls are coming over for a "Passion Party" then we are supposed to go out to a bar... I think I am totally going to ditch out on the bar portion of the night - I feel so bad b/c we invited 15 girls and only 3 are coming so I hate to bail but I just don't see myself being able to deal with standing all night in a crowded bar 30 weeks pregnant getting pushed and shoved as drunk girls dance around... I am glad my house is mostly clean already b/c I have no motivation to clean today for the party tomorrow and my other SIL is taking care of the food lastminute for me - THANK GOD!

Oh hon, SO sorry about this.

Don't worry at all about your son watching movies all day. I'm sure he loves it, and you definitely need to take care of yourself. I would not blame you for ditching out on the bar portion of the party, and I'm sure no one else would either, especially with this new info.

Hang in there and keep us updated!
