tips for a cold?

Hi All. DD coughed on me enough times that I caught her cold. I woke up at 3am and couldn't breathe at all (really stuffy nose). Other than liquids and rest, do you recommend anything we can do? I am miserable and left work today at lunch to take a nap. I am off to my bed but please suggest remedies if you have some. Thanks!

I woke up with the sore throat from h*** and am getting a cough too. We use honey mixed with water for sore throats and benadryl at night time. Hope you feel better soon.

Oh, poor thing! I had a cold right when I found out I was pregnant, and it is the worst being sick AND pregnant because you can't take any good drugs!

I used a nasal rinse (recipe given to me by my Ear/Nose/Throat doctor to flush things out: 1 pint distilled water, 1/2 tsp sea salt (not iodized), 1/2 baking soda. Use a bulb to squirt up in your nose and just let it run right out. I like to do it in the shower because it's less messy! Or if this sounds gross you can just get some saline spray and hope that does the trick!

A humidifier would also probably help loosen things up in your nose. I also used the Breathe Right strips to be able to sleep.

Hope you feel better soon!

A neti pot! I loved my neti pot when preggers with DS. Havent needed to use it yet with this one, but Im sure I will eventually. One tip though, Make sure you use distilled water if you are putting it up your nose. Apparently people have died from some organism in tap water? Was just told about this the other day, so not sure how true it is.

I've had a few colds already during this pregancy. Lots of hot tea help me. It soothes my throat and helps loosen things. I also take 2 showers a day. One in the morning and one right before bed. Its not to do with the cleaning but the heat and moisture help loosen and move things so I can breathe. I can not sleep without my hummidifier right now (I'm still finishing up a cold right now).

At the worst point of the cold I have a taken a few doses of pseudophed but I try to limit medication intake even of the ones the doctors allow. Just remember your only allowed the kind that is monitored and you have to get it from behind the pharmacy counter and give them your idea and answer questions. The pseudophed that is on the shelves isn't approved for pregnancy.

Oh and this is going to sound weird but vicks vapor rub makes a baby form of their vabor rub. I borrow DS's and just smell the bottle. Sometimes it might be enough to help break up some of the gunk!!

This last cold I discovered something new. Kleenex has Kleenex Cold touch tissues. Oh my gosh were they heaven sent. We are saving them just for when we are sick because they are a little more expensive than regular tissues. But they feel like silk on your nose when you have been blowing for days. I don't know how they do it but I loved those things!!!

Hope u feel better soon. Sorry to babble but like I said I'm still getting rid of my last cold so all this stuff is fresh in my mind.

Thanks all! I am feeling a bit better (thanks to a 2 hour nap). I am going to sleep with two humidifiers and a breathe right strip. I might steal some of DD's saline spray. I have a neti pot (haven't heard the tap water thing, but if you can drink tap water safely, I think it should be okay). I HATE doing the neti pot but I might do it right before bed. I use some special salt and warm tap water. I know some people love the neti pot but I just think it is gross and sometimes when I am stuffy it accumulates in my ear and then I get pain in my ear that takes a day to drain. Yuck! Hope you all stay well!
