Twins?

So, I told my SIL (who has a set of twins) about my appt today--that the baby was very wiggly and she knows that I felt movement pretty early. She said she thinks it could be twins because that is what happened to her...she felt movement very early and thought she was crazy, and her OB thought it was a wiggly baby because the HB kept moving. Turns out there were TWO babies in there, they found out at their gender scan. To be honest, the idea of twins terrifies me, but I guess if it is I will rise to the occasion! Anyone else think it could be multiples??

You can always ask your OB to check for two heartbeats as well at your next appt. Just let them know twins run in your family and that you've felt movement and you can even tell them you're a little worried. It shouldn't be a problem.

I was told there was a high probability I had twins because my numbers were so high but it turned out to just be one. I had them check several times just in case lol.

Wow, congratulations! I was worried I was having twins earlier (there were 2 yolk sacs in the same gestational sac) but a later u/s showed only one baby. I did think I felt the baby yesterday, when did you first feel movement with this pregnancy? It's neat that it's not my 1st pregnancy and since I know what a baby feels like I am pretty sure I felt him/her moving around. When is your u/s? Has it been scheduled yet?

Argh, I keep writing posts and when I hit reply it disappears and never shows up on the thread. Why? Is that happening to anyone else? Anyway, u/s scheduled for Feb 9th, and we have our next appt right afterward on the same day, so all will be answered then. I felt movement at 11.5 weeks, which is around when my SIL said she started feeling movement with her twins. Supposedly you can't feel movement before 13 weeks, but I call BS, I've definitely been feeling movement since before that. I'm going with the theory that it is just ONE baby, but mentally preparing in the back of my mind just in case. If SIL turns out to be right, it will be quite a shock. Although it will resolve DH's and my argument about whether or not we will have a third! Wink

My worst nightmare is twins! Now if I end up with them I will regret saying that, but I am terrified there is twins in there. They run in my family as well and my daughter keeps telling me there is 2 babies in my tummy, and DH had a dream that we had twin boys. AHHHH! I can barely imagine one more baby, let alone 2 at once! I also have a 2 year old and a 4 year old and it will seem so unfair to them if its twins. Especially my son.

Having said all that, if it is twins Im sure I will get over it and be fine. At least they run in my family so I will be able to get lots of advice.

Here's hoping for one baby each for me and you!

I don't want twins myself but I think it would be really cool if someone on the board did! LOL. We don't have any confirmed twin mamas yet, do we?

*lurker*
Twins don't run in our family. They are on Brian's side. I have heard that it has to be on the mother's side for there to be an influence on whether or not you have a higher chance of conceiving twins. Just sayin. Nevertheless.. Can you even imagine!? What if it's twin girls???? Squeeeeeee!

p.s. I just bought a bunch of cute maternity clothes on sale at Old Navy with a xmas gift card. You can share the love after March. LOL.

For fraternal twins, there is a tiny increase in your chances of conceiving twins if a female blood relative has twins (ovulating two eggs at once is genetic) so it can run in women on the woman's side. Identical twins isn't thought to be genetic, it's luck, although there has been some research about an enzyme in sperm that can cause an egg to divide into two embryos, but then it would only run in males on the male side. So neither situation applies to me. But, that doesn't mean it didn't happen all on its own. Anyway, we'll see!
Also: what if it's twin BOYS?! NOOOOOOO! Wink

I really need to stop reading this thread! My Grandfather (on my moms side) was a twin, my mom 'should' have been a twin, and my Aunt (moms sister) had twins! So they definitely run on the female side of my family!

I would have been happy with twins for my first, or even second, but now......this baby is supposed to be our last. I couldn't imagine having twins, AND a 5 year old, AND a 2 year old! Just thinking about it makes me panic a little:)
