Update on me - baby coming early?? UPDATE in #28

Hi everyone -
Sorry It has taken me a few days to update b/c i have been busy running around to L&D and Dr. appts the last few days.

So I previoulsy posted that I had a high amount of portein in my urine - 840 - the number is supposed to be under 150. The Dr. made me do another 24 hour urine collection to see if the problem is getting worse - the results came back Monday and my number is now 1137! Good news is I have no swelling and my blood pressure is perfect so it is NOT pre-eclampsia... but bascially the stress of the pregnancy is causing my kidneys to fail. Most likely as soon as i deliver my kidneys will function normally. Dr. said the yes - 1137 is high - but he won't take the baby until the number gets around 12,000! BUT he also said as the problem progresses, the numbers climb drastically - he is expecting my next set of numbers to be around 3,000 - 4000, and continue at the rate for the next few weeks - so he said i will not be getting to my due date at all - his goal is to get to 35 - maybe 36 weeks but it could even be sooner 33 or 34 weeks...

Also I had a growth sono last week in which the baby is perfectly healthy, measuring ahead and weight over 4 lbs...
Yesterday I went to L&D to get my first of 2 steroid shots to help baby's lungs mature and while there the monitor said I was contracting even though i did not feel it - so I get to be out on meds to stop the contracts as well as IV fluids which helped right away and I went home and hour later - today I went back for the 2nd steroid shot and had no contractions. Today baby was measuring 5 lbs 14 oz! Also doing my 3rd 24 hour urine collection today (which is SOOOOO fun!) Dropping of the urine tomorrow and should have the results by Friday - there is a slight chance Dr will say #'s are too high I am delivering next week - OR he will have me repeat the 24 hour urine collection every 5 days or so tomonitor the #'s and once it gets high enough I am delivering via C-section.

The nurse at the hospital yesterday said to pack my hospital bag! So this is all a little scary - but trying to stay positive.

And I am leaving Thursday morning to go on a 3 hour road trip for my SIL's wedding! Dr. said I should be fine and i can still go - we will be coming home Sunday or Monday - been looking forward to this for months so I am happy i can still go - but as soon as we get home I am packing my hospital bag, installing the car seat and setting up a few last minute things around the house - but basically we are ready to go if baby comes next week... just need to pick names!!!!

I am just hoping baby will be big enough - healthy enough for my to breastfeed (not just give pumped milk) and that I will not have to leave the hospital without my baby - these are my 2 goals so please pray I can keep this little one baking as long as possible....

Lots of prayers being sent that baby can stay in as long as possible. Also that no matter when it's time the baby is very healthy and gets to go home with you with no nicu time. Keep us updated please.

Have a great weekend away at your sil's wedding.

***lurker***

my munchkin came at 36w1d, he spent 5 days in the NICU but only because of jaundice. He was 4.12 @ birth and perfectly healthy, I had the steroid shots too. If you make it close to 36 weeks generally they may check out baby in NICU for a few hours and then you can have normal rooming in. Also if you make it to 36 weeks you should be ok on breast feeding.

Thanks for updating, I had been wondering about you. I hope you get to keep that baby baking a few more weeks! That sounds scary, I'd be feeling pretty anxious too, but I'm glad you caught it before something REALLY scary happened. KUP on how things are going.

I've been lurking on your board for a while now (I'm on the August board) and I've been watching for your update. I'm sorry things are getting scary, but it sounds like you and the doctor are on top of it and that the baby is doing GREAT for only being 32 weeks so far! I'll include you in my prayers and hope that everything goes as you want for both you and baby...

Sooo - I made it through the wedding! I was having a lot of pain while away so when i got back i called my OB and he told me to come in - he was concered b/c the pain is in my kidney area so he sent me straight to L&D! They ran blood work and an ultrasound but my gallbladder, liver and kidey were all fine.... they did find a rib out of place which could be causing the pain but Dr. thinks it really has to do something with my high protein in urine issue...he said the basically i have to deal with the pain (he could give me safe pain meds, but then he said I won't know when the pain is getting worse!) until the pain gets to bad, then he will deliver....OR id my urine / protein #'s get to around 2,000 - 3,000 he will deliver - which ever comes first..

I am meeting my Dr. again tomorrow and will get the results of my most recent 24 hour urine collection. the last # was 1,300 - so hopefully it only went up another 200 or so and if thats the case then he will just order me another 24 hour urine collection test next week - but if it it goes up alot I could be having my c-section this weekend...

Glad the pain didn't turn out to be anything more serious, and that you made it through the wedding! That must feel like a relief. Rib pain can be excrutiating, actually, so it could be it is that. I once pulled a ligament in my ribcage and it felt like someone was stabbing me every time I moved. Honestly, it was worse than labor pain! Anyway, I hope you can keep that baby in there at least another couple weeks!

So glad to hear that you were able to go to the wedding. I really hope that your test results today aren't too high. You and your LO are definitely in my thoughts and prayers. And just as a side note, I was told that at my hospital in order to breastfeed a baby in teh NICU you have to have a current HIV test on file. I don't know if this policy is the same everywhere, but it may be good to check into. Good luck with everything!!

Praying that your protein numbers only increased a *tiny* bit and you can make it another week. Oh, and yay for being able to go to the wedding!

Another update!

Oddly enough my number went down from 1,300 to 845! The Dr. is not sure why but we are both happy with the results! So another 24 hour urine collection this Wednesday will determine where we go from here!

Doesnt everyone get an HIV test as part of their pregnancy bloodwork? I know I did.

I didn't. I had one when I was pregnant with my oldest. It was negative, and I havent had any other partners or any other circumstances where I might contract it......so I see no need to repeat it, and passed on being retested after that.

Maybe I just opted into it as an automatic response for me Smile With my husband being RCMP and being exposed to some crazy stuff, I occasionally request to be tested for things like HIV and hepatitis anyways. I know about halfway through my last pregnancy, I got all my bloodwork redone, because he ended up in a massive bloodbath, and they later discovered the lady was positive for hep.

Well I dropped off my 24 hour urine sample today and will find out the results at my OB appt tomorrow...

also interested to find out if I am dialating or anything yet b/c I had contractions for 7 hours yesterday - consistantly 8-14 minutes apart - just as i called my Dr. - they slowed down and stopped.... I never went into labor with DS so I was not sure if this means this will be starting soon - or just false labor....

Ok - so another update!!!

My last week test results came back lower than they have EVER been! I am now only at 574!!! Which is still a little high but not to where they need to take the baby early and DR. said (at my OB appt last week) I had ZERO protein in my urine (going by the basic urine sample at the office not the full 24 hour test).....
SO I am doing another 24 hour urine collection today - dropping it off tomorrow - and if it goes even lower - I might not even have to test for it anymore! It is SOOOO weird! My Dr. has like no explanation as to why m y kidney's stopped or slowed function then just got better!!! or getting better...

He had orignally said I would NEVER make it to my due date and was hoping to make it to 35 / 36 weeks - and here I am 35 weeks! I am VERY happy baby got to cook longer.... but I admit I am getting a little impatiant - ESPECIALLY since it is so hot and humid here in NY and we only have a bedroom air condioniner so I have been MELLLTTTIINNGGGG the last few days!

I can see how this would be both such a great relief and a wee bit disappointing at once. You were mentally gearing up to get to meet your baby sooner and now it will probably be a few more weeks still. But so much better for your baby to get fully cooked Smile Thanks for the update and I'm glad whatever was going on with your kidneys resolved itself!

That is so weird, but good! Glad your little one gets to cook for a bit longer, hope you meet him sooner rather than later though Smile

How cool that your body fixed whatever was going wrong. Hope the time until you meet your baby goes quickly!
