    Default Appointment today

I saw the perinatologist today. It was reassuring. He is very easy to talk to. He prescribed a dating scan to give me peace of mind. I have that scheduled for next Tuesday. I'm pretty nervous about it. I haven't had a lot of positive u/s scans over the past few years. He also recommended I touch base with my thoracic surgeon to make sure that everything will be okay, because I had a giant hiatal hernia repaired about a year ago, and we want to make sure it's not going to be a problem during labor. I really have baby brain, though, because I told him I had my surgery in July, then I was thinking about it this evening, and it was July of last year. I have to call him back and tell him that little detail.

I bet a whole year will make a huge difference--that makes two years from surgery to labor. What happens if it does cause a problem? Would they encourage a c/s?

Good luck with your ultrasound. Share pictures!

It was interesting, because the perinatologist advocated an "assisted 2nd stage labor" in which labor would be allowed to progress, and when you get to the 2nd stage, using an epidural to prevent an uncontrollable urge to push, assist the baby out with forceps or vacuum. He says that he has done this often for women with heart or lung problems who are unable to push. I remember asking my surgeon about becoming pregnant again (not that I was intending to), and I remember him saying to wait a year, so I think we should be okay. I need to check with him just in case though.
