Which OB to Choose?

Hi Everyone!

I'm looking to gather some opinions. I'm planning to call and schedule the first OB appointment, but I'm not sure who to schedule it with!

So, with my DD I had a good experience with my OB throughout the pregnancy. She had a great nurse and she was supportive, nice, and answered all my questions. However, I think I always felt like there was something missing during my visits--maybe she wasn't that warm or personable? Anyway, I went into labor on New Year's Eve, so I got the on-call doctor from their group and not the doctor I had seen throughout my whole pregnancy. It was an amazing birth experience. She was sweet, nice, and talkative in trying to get to know me. During the birth she was supportive and really helped me through it. My SIL is a labor and delivery nurse at that hospital says they are both great choices and she goes to the doctor that I delivered with.

I know I can't make a wrong choice, but am not sure who to go with. What would you guys do?

i think I would try the one that delivered your DD. They both sound great, but I would be curious especially if something was missing from the other one.

I would try the new one. It sounds like you felt really comfortable and that is important.

I would go with the one that delivered your DD. Plus she will have your delivery history.

I agree, I think the new one sounds like the one that you had a wonderful birth experience with.

Thanks everyone! I just called for an appointment, but wow... I can't see her until 12/31! It feels so weird to not see a doctor until after Christmas! With my DD I saw my old OB at 8 weeks and that seemed more appropriate--especially since I was, by that time, in serious need of some anti-nausea medicine. However, apparently I need a nurse and a doctor visit and those are hard to come by? When are all of you having your first appointments?

I will be 10 or 11 weeks when I have my first appointment. I know another lady here said her first appointment is in January. I know it seems like a long way off, but as long as you aren't having any problems there is no danger. Generally you can't get a heart beat on Doppler till 9 or 10 weeks anyway, unless you wanted an early ultrasound to confirm the pregnancy. I get not wanting to wait though... I'm excited for my first appointment!

Yikes, that would be a hard wait. I have already been to the OB twice and will go again for an early ultrasound on the 29th but I am very high risk.

Your appt date does seem a bit far off. I thought OB's start right at 6 weeks or so and midwives start a little later- between 8-12 weeks.
Guess you gotta wait a bit longer for the good ones. Wink

Yeah, I think I was just a little bummed because it doesn't feel totally real for me yet and I guess I thought an appointment would do that for me. However, DH kindly just reminded me that in a few weeks my morning sickness will do that for me. I know it's not too far away, but it seems like a long wait. It's weird to think that Christmas will be over by the time I see a doc--Christmas seems so far away to me Smile
