Changing nap schedule?

So, it is totally normal for them to be CRABBY when changing nap schedules? I think that Logan is trying to drop to 2 naps a day now... he usually takes a 45min one at 9am, a 1 and 1/2hr one at noon and then MAYBE 30min around 4pm. BUT, he has really been fighting the 4pm lately.
Today, he took his 9am nap, slept for like 20min then woke up. But now its 1040am and I actually just put him back to bed cause he was rubbing his eyes like a madman and so cranky.... we shall see if he sleeps...
I am thinking that he is trying to shift.... does that sound about right? My guess is that he is gonna drop the 4pm nap and move the 12pm one a bit later???

Is there anything that I can do to help him with the adjstement? He is all out of sorts now!

Jacob was on the same schedule and he dropped the 4pm one and the lunchtime one got longer to 2 hours about a week later. Don't worry he will adjust pretty quickly. It probably took J about of week or 2 to adjust. Smile

Oh and yes both other naps move to a little later. So instead of 9 it's now about 9.15 and instead of 12 it is now 1. The morning one has also lengthened to about 1 hour or 1.15 hours. You are aiming for about 3 hours of total naptime a day.

Thank you, thank you! That was really helpful and gives me some idea of what to expect over the next couple of weeks... Logan actually took 4 naps today- its like he is trying to figure it all out...but they were all really short (less than an hour)... I do think that he is trying to go down to 2 a day, just not quite sure how to do it!

We're in the same position as you. We were at 4 naps and seemed to go from 4 to 2 and almost bipassed 3. If he's on the "early" schedule he has 3 (last one squeezed in around 4:30), but I hate that last nap because while it means a happier baby it also means a later bedtime (and most often less sleep during the night).

My ideal times are 9-10:30 (or thereabouts) and 1:00-3:00 - that's what DD did when she had 2 naps. Unfortunately Colin only randomly sleeps for more than 45 minutes (although it is becoming more frequent), so now I'm finding he's doing 2x45 minute naps, which isn't enough during the day (for either of us).

Definitely try to push the noon until 1pm - then you don't have to fight with him about that late nap.

Ugh....So yesterday we had 4 naps...today, at around 915, he was rubbing his eyes all tired out. So, I put him to bed. It is now 945, and he is still in there, awake, moaning and rolling around! What gives?! This used to be his most consistant nap of any of them! I feel like I am doing something totally wrong....LOL.... I know he is trying to push this one later, but he isnt really doing that great a job of it! Sigh..DH has conferences tonight too, so its just me and what is sure to be a really crabby baby ALL DAY!!

Is he hungry? With a later nap he might need a snack before. It took me an hour and 20 minutes to get colin down for a 40 minute nap today and I think part of the reason was that I mis-read his cues and should have fed him first.

You know, thats an interesting thought.... I am gonna try to feed him a bit first today, before he goes down, to see if that helps! He usually gets up and eats at 730ish, and then naps around 915... maybe I will give him a little fruit or something to fill up his tummy...! Thanks! Great idea! Smile
