I have been dealing with facial rashes on Colin for ages now - started with his bum, and at the same time he's had little bumps under his eyes. I asked the dr about it and she said that it's nothing they can do for it, probably teething related, and suggested vaseline. He's had the same bumps around his mouth for a couple of weeks.
Friday the bumps around his mouth got a little worse - in the exact place his soother covers. He's been drooling up a storm, cut a molar a week ago and I know there are more just waiting to pop through.
Saturday/Sunday the mouth rash intensified - totally red, bumpy, painful looking but didn't seem to bother him. There was a bright red blotch all around his mouth, exactly where his soother goes. My theory was that there is so much drool when he's sleeping that it's irritating the skin. It was soooo gross looking.
Monday it was a bit better. I kept up with the vaseline all weekend. I was off Monday and was at the school with the kids and so many people had thoughts on what we should do and suggested rashes like impetigo (or something like that) which is a contagious rash with yellow crusty stuff all over it. Someone suggested putting diaper rash cream on his face (ew what if it got in his mouth?), bathing him in baking soda (it's only his mouth so I'm not sure the logic on that), and that it could be an allergy.
I stuck to my guns and kept up with a combo of vaseline, polysporin and cortisone cream. And, guess what? It worked! It's 1000% better today (ok not totally better but tons better). I feel so vindicated that I stuck to my guns, went with my gut and I was right. So glad I listened to the doctor and didn't second guess and go back. Maybe I'm actually getting this mothering thing down?!
