Does everyone get a 3rd trimester ultrasound?

Because my Dr told me on thurs that I'm not gonna get one Sad And I havent had once since 19 wks.
I guess its a good thing because her words were "I dont see any reason that you need one, you're measuring just right and everything seems ok."
But I still wanted to see him and his chubby little face inside of me one more time! And make sure everything was going ok.
Are you/Did you all get a 3rd trimester ultrasound? Why/Why not?

I did with my first and this one. My 1st one I got an ultrasound in the 3rd trimester because she was breech and they wanted to make sure she was still breech before they did the c-section. This one i have an ultrasound every week along with my NST because of my medical problems.

Normally, my doctor's office does one at 35 weeks. But, I was a special case and I had one done every two weeks.

No... not until this pregnancy did I get a late U/S and that was do to medical reasons to make sure the placenta wasn't detaching early...we didn't even see the face due to baby's placement. I know it must be tough, but try to enjoy the suspence... you'll be seeing that chubby cheeked baby soon enough.

My Doc is a little U/S happy. She always does a growth check in the 3rd tri, and since I always measure small with my babies, she tends to do several to make sure baby's growth is progressing despite my small size. I don't think it is unusual for an OB not to do a 3rd tri U/S, though. I'm sure that's disappointing for you. Hopefully you'll be seeing that chubby little face really soon anyway Smile

I had one with my first because I was measuring small, but didn't have one with my second. I think they give you one if you're over due to check fluid levels; if you want to wait that long?! LOL

My dr is quite u/s happy. She loves to order them. They're easily justifiable for me and she's kind of very overly careful too. So that's why I have to go. She's always concerned about my kids because I don't gain so much weight and for the first and middle kid there were valid reasons. This one..no valid reason except lack of weight gain.

Some drs just do it.. maybe they know lots of their patients like it and it's reassuring to some Smile

FWIW, my OB ONLY does ultrasounds in the very early stages to confirm pregnancy, 12 weeks and then 20 weeks. If you're having a totally normal pregnancy, then you wouldn't get one outside of those three (with my OB).

My OB does the same.

I don't think I get one but this is my first so I'm not sure. I doubt it though. Normally I'm only in the exam room for two minutes with the doc--enough time to measure me and check heartbeat. The only time it was different was in the very beginning for like a week or two and the last two times when I had to get that strep B test (the lab boggled the first one so I had to get that lovely swab again).

Heck, they don't even do a pelvic exam until 38 or even 39 weeks according to the doc. She said it's because they're very uncomfortable (great!) and unless they see an issue they won't. I'm not especially fond of this doc office though; I seriously think the entire suburban Dayton area comes here so we're just numbers Blum 3 Seriously, when I had my childbirth ed class two weeks ago, all but two of the 14 couples in my class went to this office!

Anyway sorry for the rant and going off on a rabbit trail Blum 3

I'm probably not a good one to answer this question because I've been high risk with both of my pregnancies (which got me extra ultrasounds) and this time with the twins, I had a brief ultrasound to check heartbeats at every appointment. I was also getting growth scans monthly and NST ultrasounds (to check fluid) once a week. I did not have any ultrasounds scheduled specifically for the 3rd trimester though.
I can totally understand your frustration - I would want an ultrasound after going so long without one too, but I'm glad that the reasoning behind not getting one is that it's not 'necessary' since things are going well for you!

I had one with Eathan because I was measuring small so they wanted to make sure my water levels were ok (which they were). This time I had one because my 20w sono showed a low lying placenta and they just wanted to make sure it moved up. I don't think they usually do them unless something may be wrong.

My Dr. office doesn't do one past the 18-20 week anatomy scan, unless there's a problem with baby (which I've never experienced myself). You can always check and see if there's an elective U/S around your area where you can go and see baby and even have a DVD made with pictures! There's a place near my house that does them in 3D...
