36 Week Appointment

Had my weekly appointment on monday. All was good, babes hr was in the 140s, my bp was good and measuring right on. Had strep swab done and dr said he does't do cervical checks until 38 weeks, then again at 39. I found it interesting that he said the only reason he does them is to see if you are "inducible" if the time came to have to be induced. Which makes sense since depending on the person you can sit at 4cm dilated for weeks or go from 0-10 in a matter of hours, so that number really doesn't mean a whole lot, I think he's looking for more effacement changes I guess! I go back again in a week! I think I may have to make a stop over there today...last night and the night before I was literally up every hour peeing...I think my UTI may be back. Grrr...

Sounds like a productive appointment - and baby looks good Smile

Checks are pointless because really they tell you nothing, so unless one is really curious and just wants to know I can see why an OB wouldn't routinely check.

Why would a doc need to know if you are "induce-able" before you hit like 41 weeks at minimum??? Ick.

Glad everything looks good with you and baby though! Smile

Totally agree!! I asked that and I guess this dr will induce ladies at 39 weeks if they want and are "favorable". Which is SOOOOO not me so I will probably just decline the checks. Really no point. I am all about the baby coming whenthey are ready! My last dr had a hard rule of inducing ladies at 40w 4 days. I was so panicked last pregnancy when I approached 40 weeks that I'd be induced, but she came before it had to be an argument! This dr said he will not force an induction unless it's medically necessary, which calms me down a bit!

My doctor told me today that it would be best if I deliver "in the first or second week of June"- didn't even use dates! I'll be 40-41 weeks at that point, so she isn't induction- happy! It was really refreshing.
But, one should never feel pressured at 40 weeks to induce. That's just bad medical practice if you ask me.

Agreed!!

Since I'm a VBAC, I was given until 41 weeks before they'll schedule my repeat c/s. Seeing as I had DS 4 weeks early, I highly doubt I'll have to worry about getting that far!
