Car Seats / Travel System

With DD, we had the basic Graco Snugride - went up to 22 pounds. It was pink/brown so we can't use it with this new little guy. I've also become a little more educated on car seats, and although Graco is popular...there are other car seats that have better safety ratings.

I am pretty stuck on the Chicco Keyfit 30. We used the stroller quite a bit with DD, it was so easy/quick to just snap in the base and go. DH prefers that we get the travel system this time as well, which adds quite a bit of cost.

What has everyone else decided on, or what one are you leaning towards?

We also had the Graco snugride carseat and travel system for my first two boys. The seat expired, so I did some research and bought the Chicco Keyfit 30. I didn't get the travel system bc we have so many strollers here that we don't use. When the boys were tiny, we bought one of those "skeleton" strollers that the car seat just snaps into and that's all it is. I might purchase one of those for the keyfit because it was really useful while baby is still in that little car seat.

I've got the Graco travel system from DD but I'm not going that route... my best friends SIL is giving me her travel system (not sure of the make) from her boy that just turned one.. I plan on getting a sit and stand stroller. My DD just turned 3 but she's still in that stage where she likes to ride in the stroller or be carried.

We're using a Graco Snugride with a Baby Jogger Summitt XC. Jason outgrew his infant seat at 4 months so I don't want to invest a lot of money in an infant travel system and I can get the glider board for Jason to ride on when we're going to be out and about for long periods. We never liked the travel system strollers since we take a lot of trips. They always feel too bulky and hard to maneuver, IMO.

After he outgrows that, he'll rearface in my car in a Radian XTSL until 45lbs or age 3 and will be in a True Fit in dh's Jeep. I am worried about trying to fit ods's future Frontier with the Radian next to it, but my sister has one I can play with.

I would love the Chicco seat if it wasn't so expensive and I am terribly disappointed my Britax Chaperone doesn't work in my car, so the Graco it is. I would really love to skip the infant seat all together, but hate waking a sleeping kid up to bring them inside or transfer to the stroller. I think once we're past this stage we'll be in car seat and stroller nirvana. We'll have our trusty Maclaren for times when we need the space and the Summitt when we need the extra oomph and for jogging and I love the Radian and the Frontier. Dh doesn't love the True Fit and I'm thinking he won't like the Nautilus (next step for ods in his Jeep), but we rarely take family rides in his Jeep.

Wow. Short novel over.

im going with graco simply because of the great deals i've found so far. i picked one up about a month or so ago off a lady who was trying to make some extra money for christmas. the one i picked up was a travel set....the stroller and carseat. really didn't want the carseat since my dad already bought me one but this lady would not part with the stroller unless i bought the set. i am an outdoors kind of person so i am glad to invested in this. unbelievably bought this for 50 bucks, and after pricing this afterwards omg i am so glad i did. everything was included and pretty much brand new. this is a pic of the one i got so cheap and also the cute one my dad got for me!

I am so glad you posted something about your seat being expired. This was not on my mind until now. Looks like I will be looking for a new one also!!

I let DH pick out the car seat ensemble...he is a certified car seat installer (no joke!)...He is Safety in the military so this is right up his alley! Yes, car seats can expire!

We have a Teutonia baby carrier/base that also does fit into our Teutonia stroller... but, I mostly LOATHE strollers, and never really used one with DD until after she was a good 4 mos old (she lived in carriers/slings/wraps- easy and comfortable for both of us, plus, hands free!). So, we'll use that car seat again with this baby (it's a lovely shade of green, which worked for DD and will work for this baby too!). For walks and stuff, we'll use the stroller for DD, with the LO in a wrap/carrier. My guess is for other things (like family outings, etc), we'll use two Ergos!

With my other two children, I never bought a wrap or ...baby sling...or whatever they have. What do you suggest I get? I would like to buy one for this baby!

Our first carseat expired, too. It was a Graco Snugride (which at the time....9 years ago!....was rated as one of the best....) My good friend and neighbor gave us her seat to use for a bit. I usually only keep baby in a little seat for 2 months or so, and then we move to a convertible (Britax-- we have FOUR of them--oy! Though I think one of them may be about to expire, too.....)

I love my Ergo and use that a lot. I hate the travel systems and find the strollers to be too big and bulky. We have a Phil and Teds E3 w the doubler-- that'll work for us (again!) We've beat the tar out of that stroller over the last 6 years and I still think it has been one of our best investments.

Happy shopping!

I mostly use an umbrella stroller - not a super cheap one, it has some bells and whistles. But it's light and compact. This one.

I like travel systems for outdoor stuff - like when you plan a day at the park (we have a Splash-Pad at our park), or plan a picnic with fireworks. For 1st baby I bought a used Graco stroller, and bought a matching new Graco car seat. They were light green. That stroller has since worn out.

Before I was even pregnant this 2nd time I bought a used Graco Quattro Tour Duo in Rittenhouse (double stroller) and it looks great and I got a great deal. So now I want a matching black & white car seat. But not the Rittenhouse car seat - it looks too girly. lol I want the Graco SnugRide 30 - Metropolis.

Then I want to upgrade to a Radian once he's about 4-6 months depending on how he fits in it. My daughter has a Radian 80SL in a pink print. But Sunshine Kids has been rebranded as Diono and they have new models of Radians out. So I have to research more before I pick one.

I had a lot of back pain during my last pregnancy, and for about 6months after delivery. I love baby wearing but I also like my strollers. I have an Ergo and an Action Baby Carrier and love both. I want to get a Ring Sling this time too. Last pregnancy my mom bought me a Snugli AND a Jeep baby-crotch-dangler lol. Thanks mom. I sold them though.

Come on over to the Babywearing board!!! Smile My top suggestion for carrier that will get used or the longest amount of time is the Ergo- get the infant insert to be able to use it while baby is tiny... and then you can use it until baby is like 35lbs. Seriously, they are awesome. My DD is about 22lbs, and we still carry her in it all the time. I can even carry her while pregnant.

We have a Combi Infant Car seat that I just double checked last night, and I still have another year until it expires. Whew! I didn't want to buy a new one because we have 4 bases for this one - my car, hubby's car, Grandma's car and Grandpa's truck. Smile It's teal blue but we will still use it for this baby girl. We kept our convertible car seats - my husband has this one: http://www.evenflo.com/product.aspx?id=332&pfid=4281 which my son is actually still using at Age 4.5. It's been a really nice car seat.

I plan on splurging on an Ergo Carrier this time around, because my son has lots of activities planned for this summer, so we'll need to be mobile! I had a ring sling for DS but didn't like the fabric very much.

As for strollers... I LOVE STROLLERS. I have a BOB stroller which I LOVE, and will use the car seat adapter until she's old enough to sit in it. I also have a Quinny Zapp for traveling, and have been trying to pick up a Bugaboo Bee used. I also have the matching stroller for my car seat but it doesn't push very well. The nice thing about the Combi Stroller is the fold is similar to an umbrella stroller, but it will actually recline if needed. I think its definitely worth the extra money to pick up a stroller with a nice push if you can afford it, they usually hold their resell value too, which is nice!

We have the Graco Snugride from DS, so that's what we will be using with this one! Since we didn't know what we were having till D-Day with DS, all our infant stuff is gender neutral, this included! The Snugride is still rated one of the top seats. I never had the travel system with it, though. I did have a stroller that my car seat fit into, but I'm seriously considering selling it since I probably won't be using it with this one. Those things are sooo clunky and heavy! Ugh. I plan on wearing this one and having DS in our Maclaren umbrella stroller.
