As cute story- DH + baby nickname (added pic!)

Ok yeah, I know, we don't have a BFP yet, but with testing looming this week, DH and I have been talking about this and that. I asked him today if he thought, if he had any feeling on whether or not we actually conceived this month. He answered that he figured our chances were pretty darn good. But then he added, "I've even come up with a nickname for the baby!".

Now a little background... When we got pregnant the first time, like all expecting couples we soon got sick of referring to the baby as "the baby" or "it". But I was dead set on not using one of the usual nicknames like peanut or bean or whatever. So we actually sat and thought about it and decided on Moonshine, because the baby was conceived on our honeymoon! It fit, and even though it was a long word, it totally stuck.

After Beni was born, my husband, somewhat newly addicted to tattoos, decided he wanted a tattoo of his family- a symbolic one. So because he's a surfer he got three surfboards, each with a design or picture on it that represented each of us. Beni's board has a big moon on it. So of course he plans to add to this tattoo with each additional child, so now the nickname we give our baby in utero has increased meaning and importance!! Ideally, the name would represent where the child was conceived and make a good tattoo.

So all that said... His idea for the nickname is Mekong (like the river that flows past our backyard) and the tattoo would be of the river, but sort of as seen on a map... He's got it all worked out.

I like the idea, but suggested that we could even just call the baby Kong for short. He liked it too.

So now we're just waiting to see if Kong has decided to join us this month or not!! I have one test which I plan on taking on Tuesday at 10DPO!!! But I'll be waiting on the tests from my friend to arrive before I say anything to DH!!! I'm announcing to him with a digi this time, and that is final!!!!!

Here's a pic of the tattoo as it is now. DH chose the Phantom (a comic book character) symbols for his board, I'm the ladybug, and as I said, DD is the Moon.

Also, I guess I forgot to say that yesterday when we were talking about this he basically said, "This name just came to me, the whole idea did, which obviously must be a sign that you got pregnant, otherwise that wouldn't have happened." Smile I hope he's right! We'll find out tomorrow!

Thats cute! When I was pregnant with DS, we called him goober. Our last name starts with a G and it sounded funny together, so we got in the habit of saying it.

Mara, that is too cute! Such a great idea though because some people that i have told we are TTC think it's weird I call our soon to be baby an it, but having a nickname would work so much better. I'll have to talk to Dh and see what he thinks.

I like it! I also love that your husband has that tattoo. I can't mention this idea to my husband or he will go and get one like it, and he already has enough tattoos IMO.

We called Griffin "Weensker." My dad called my youngest sister "Weensker-Beensk" when she was a baby for some reason, so one day I referred to the baby as "the Weensker" and it stuck.

How sweet Mara, I'll be 10dpo on wed. and will test that day. I've been wondering what nickname I'll give baby too! Trying to think of something unique. Hopefully we'll both get to stay here!!! Good luck and lots of babydust coming your way!!

This is the board I wish I was joing, but circumstances prevent it, but I';m going to comment here anyway. We called our DS Thumper as his nickname because one day one of the very few kicks I felt during the pregnancy felt exactly like how Thumper kicks the ground in Bambi. Haven't thought about a nickname for when we can finally have our second.

I know a guy who was called Thumper until he was at least in high school (not sure if the name started the same or not though, I imagine)....and EVERYONE called him that- he couldn't shake the nickname! Eventually though, he got rid of it. Smile
