My midwife came to see me again today- almost 36 week appt. I look good- I've gained a few lbs in the last weeks (I stayed at 171 for like a month, I think, and now suddenly I'm at 176- making up for lost time!), my BP was fine, my urine was perfect (which I was VERY excited about because I've had some protein at my last two appts, and glucose at the one- AND my sweet tooth has been OUT of CONTROL lately!). So of course we had another big palpating session- at first she said she thought baby was still breech. Then we kept talking and I talked about the movement I've felt and we talked about all our options and stuff... and then we eventually decided to go ahead and do a vaginal exam. She said my cervix was thick and high and that baby wasn't engaged. She said she didn't want to go in the cervix, cause she didn't want to cause any problems or start anything that isn't otherwise started... BUT, based on what she could feel, she was inclined to say baby was head down after all. The hard, round body part that is at the top of my belly no longer bobbles- whether that is because it's the butt, or just because baby has gotten big, we're not sure. But of course it would be a good sign if it were not bobbling because it's the butt. She also said she couldn't feel a suture line (the cranial bones) near the cervix- but that is mostly because I'm so high and thick still. I'm now measuring right on 36 weeks, and for a while I've been two weeks ahead- so maybe baby has flipped, or who knows.
We both wish money wasn't an issue and I could go for another ultrasound just to see what really is going on. I guess the not knowing- really not being able to tell- is getting to the midwife. I suppose other babies are not so tricky, and it's easier to tell which way they are positioned. Anyway... my insurance says they will only cover 2 ultrasounds regardless, and I've already had 3 (which is ok, because an ultrasound in Laos costs $50, but one here costs $350!), so... it's just not really an option anyway.
So we have another appt set up for the day I turn 38 weeks- she said she's fine going two weeks unless *I* have any concerns or symptoms. So I have to call her if I have any headaches, swelling, or just any general concerns. Otherwise, just keep on trucking.
I'm excited that my next appt will be the last one without my DH! He'll arrive back a few days after that one. Very exciting! My midwife is very anxious to meet him as well- she's very big on the whole birth team being on the same page, etc, so she's very anxious to meet him and make sure he's also in a good space.
Anyway, I love her and I love our appts.
