I hate you, Heartburn!

I really think giving birth would be less painful than this awful heartburn! It goes on all day long, regardless of what I eat or how much or little I eat. I cut off eating anything after 6pm but it doesn't help, I'm taking full dosage of Zantac, I've tried every remedy known (almonds, milk, tums, etc).

Last night is a perfect example of a night that is becoming very common - go to bed, have to get back up within 30 minutes because of the heartburn pain, end up puking from the acid, then force myself to go to sleep despite still suffering from heartburn. Then I wake up several times a night with the raging acid trying to come up.

I never had it this bad with DD - thank goodness I'm in the last four weeks...I can deal with another four weeks!

Anyone else dealing with this bad of heartburn?

The same thing happens to me! I've tried to cut back on the eating once it gets to be 5ish. If I don't, I not only get the burn, but I end up choking on my stomach contents in my sleep and I'm afraid I'll aspirate! Even water sets it off. I try to sleep propped up, but it's so uncomfortable and awkward. Only a few more weeks until we're done... hopefully!

yes and had it for months....i have learned that either pepcid or cheap stuff call rantidine twice a day. i get heartburn BAD and let me tell ya thats the only thing that helps. it brought my appetite back, not too expensive and my ob says either one is safe to use.

I am taking half the dose of Zantac and eating tums as necessary. I only have yogurt or carrots for supper and eat a big lunch to compensate. I also sleep on the couch which has recliners on either end. My doctor told me milk is actually not helpful for heartburn; he said it could make it worse.

I'm going to buy pepcid today. However I just have cereal or toast for dinner. I've pretty much cut out most food since it all makes me sick. I know it doesn't sound healthy and maybe it isn't but a big meal just grosses me out. I'm surviving on grape nuts cereal and milk, toast, occasional yogurt, bananas and peanut butter. I simply have no room in my stomach for anything real meals and food just sounds gross anyway. Ugh.
My last pregnancy I ate like an athlete until labor started and never had heartburn! never! I wonder if this baby will be born looking like Chewbacca or something Smile

I often wonder if there is an actual monkey inside...DD was pretty hairy and I had minor heartburn.

Milk seems to help short-term but it's not good on a sour stomach that's for sure. I'm taking Zantac - wonder if Pepcid would work better?! Mine as well try.

Sorry so many of you are also suffering!

take it from me pepcid does wonders. ive been dealing with this since at least jan. i tried everything, milk, tums you name it. nothing would phase it. it got so bad i didnt want to eat...pepcid though has to be taken twice a day for it to work and may take a day or so to cure the heartburn completely. if that still doesnt work try the rantidine.

Zantac's main ingrediant is Ranitidine - I think since I've been using it for so long, it's worn off in effectiveness. Or at least that's what I'll tell myself.

With my 1st pregnancy it was absolutely awful. I had full on acid reflux. I let myself suffer needlessly for too long (I should have asked for meds sooner I mean).

This time around I asked for the medication I had last time before it started acting up (I think I asked for it around 24 weeks). I take Prevacid SoluTabs first thing in the morning before I eat, and then I'm not supposed to eat for an hour after taking them. And they REALLY DO work.

They work better when I remember to take them every day (which I don't). If I forget 2 days in a row I'm in misery again. Beee

That sucks, Rebecca! My HB is worse when I haven't eaten. Do small meals/snacks help at all? If my tummy is empty it is like the acid can just accumulate without having any food to absorb it.

((HUGS)) I hope you find some relief. My baby might be bald bc I only have HB once in a rare while (when I skip meals or eat something stupid like pizza and fried pickles :). )

I had baaaaaaaaaaaaaad heartburn with Lucas (it went away immediately after birth, thank god!). Per my doctor I was taking a Zantac ( or equivalent of) 3 times a day and then spot treating with tums. There is stuff you can be prescribed too, maybe ask your doctor.
