My dh made an appt to go look at the hospital. I guess they closed the NICU and our kid would either go to Mobile, Alabama or New Orleans, LA if something happened (both an hour and 15 minutes from the hospital). That was the only really bad part though. The rooms are really nice, the OR is inside L&D, the nurse showing us around told me when I asked if there was a pump available "Yes, but she (the lactation consultant) will do everything she can to keep you from having to pump", and made it sound like the LC would probably get on my nerves trying to help. So happy about that because last time I really struggled and the LC was never available and they kept pressuring me to let them give him a bottle of formula. It took a long time for us to have a latch. Her face did blanch when she talked about the food tray being deliverred, but I've eaten breakfast there (fantastic!) so hopefully the other meals will be brought from the outside. They also had 24 hour visiting periods which is amazing to me; we'll just have to provide a list of people to allow on the base itself. She also told me to bring my own towles which I thought was pretty thoughtful. The last thing I want is to be trying to cover up my post-partum c-section having butt with a small towel. It was freezing too which made me happy because I was burning up in the last hospital. Anyway, ramble over.
So I'm excited and glad it's not what I thought it was going to be.
