OMG! (happy.sad) VENT! *1st post updated w/video*

So, my cute box filled with BLUE balloons idea, didn't work out quite as well as I had planned. Originally, I had the whole thing set up perfectly outside in our back yard, so that when he opened the box they'd all float away.

First off all, he got home 2 hours later than normal, so it was already dark out. Then it started raining at some point and I didn't realize it until my beautifully decorated moving boxes were all melted and lop-sided. So needless to say, my attempt at a perfect moment was moved indoors and he got a good laugh out of the presentation. On the plus side however, my kids were both thrilled to get to keep the balloons all to themselves!!

Ohh, and of couse, after he saw the blue balloons he couldn't stop smiling and he's been grinning/glowing ever since!!
... and here's the video Smile

Okay, I'm full of mixed feelings right now, so please bare with me!

Today (like 30 minutes ago), I had a regular appointment to check baby's HB, my weight & BP.. you know that kind of stuff; NO ULTRASOUND!! My DF worked today, which was no big deal because again, it was supposed to be a normal check up.... EHHH WRONG!! I was so NOT prepared for what just happened.

First of all, we were on team green to the finish line. We both wanted that surprise moment at the end, and at the very least if we did find out beforehand it would be TOGETHER. So, with that said, you might be able to guess what happened!!

While in the dr.'s office, my OB was checking for the baby's HB via dopler. She was having a really hard time finding it and decided to get the US machine out really fast, just to make sure she could at least see it and give me the all clear. I was fine with that, since I love getting little peaks at the baby. However, literally the second she put the baby on the screen, it was a FULL BOTTOM shot. There was no question at all as to the baby's gender... BOY!! I was shocked it was that simple and fast!! I didn't even get the chance to turn away when she got close to the legs.. it was just right there, plain as day. We had to search around with my last 2 children, and it certainly was not just a BAM, theres your answer.

Now, I'm trying to find a way to tell my DF. Should I just throw it at him when he gets home from work? Wait a while? Maybe just convince him to find out by our next US in a few weeks? IDK what to do?! I feel like I just stole a moment from him or something.. we were supposed to experience that together; not like that!! Not without him there. The whole thing just felt so blah, not like the build up and excitment I was hoping for. Just me, the dr. and a lame '..oh BTW, it's a boy" moment. I'm afraid he will be sad or mad I found out. I know it was an accident.. but still, I cannot help but feel this way.

If you got this far, thanks for listening! I feel better already..

I'm so sorry that happened! You could maybe just tell your DF what happened with out revealing the gender and he can decide if he still wants to wait, or find out??

Oh wow! What did the tech say? Are you 100% sure? I think if it were me I'd tell my DH. I guess at 16 weeks they can probably be pretty sure, but don't girls still have a nub for a while? That is kind of a letdown. How frustrating!

((HUGS)) I would tell him what happened and leave it up to him whether or not he wants to know.

With our first baby, my dh wanted to know and I didn't. So he found out and kept it a secret from me until the end.....could you do that if he wanted?

Good luck! And congrats on team blue!

I am so sorry that happened Sad We had that happen with our DS at our 20 wk anatomy scan, we had planned on a surprise and we were so excited about experiencing that, "it's a..." moment at delivery, but like you the second the tech put the wand on my belly BAM! There was a little hotdog, no doubt. It was a let down for sure just becuase we really wanted that moment, but of course we both got excited after that. I don't think you DF would be mad at you, it was not like it was planned, it was an accident. Maybe just tell him what happened and ask if he would like to know the gender, or if he would stll like the surprise? Could you keep the gender a secret that long and just continue on team green for his sake if that is what he wants??

So sorry that happened! I would tell DF what happened though. It really was an accident!

As someone who is dead set on team green- I've already been warned that the tech at our local clinic tends to blurt these things out- so I know I will be saying it like 5 times over as clearly as I can (he's not a native English speaker) that we DON'T WANT TO KNOW. Also, after hearing this story, I will not look at the screen until he says it's safe to! With my last baby, I made the tech tell me when she was going to be looking at anything lower than the waist, and I turned away.

LURKER

This happened to someone in (I think) April. She told her SO about what happened at the appointment (accidentally found out when the tech put the wand on and it happened to show the goods right away). She let her So decide whether he wanted to know then from her or if he wanted to wait. He decided to know if she knew, and they were both thrilled with the news.

This would have happened to me too if I hadn't decided to find out. The first place the tech put the wand was right on my little girl's bum. It was hard to miss that she is a girl.

Good luck with telling your SO. I'm sure he'll be happy with the news. Biggrin And congrats on your son.

Thanks for all the advice ladies!

I told him last night, and explained everything. Like some of you suggested, I let him decide if he wanted to know or not. He said he would like to know, but wanted to have a day to prepare. So today after work, I'm going to fill a box full with BLUE balloons and let him open them Smile

Ill post a video of his reaction. (He wants a boy so bad! I hope he likes my effort to make it at least kind of special!)
