Question about bathing.

Okay, so I know I was supposed to wait until his cord fell off, which happened yesterday. Am I supposed to wait until his circ heals too? the doctor looked yesterday and said another 3 or 4 days for that. I feel like I'm not very good at washing him with a cloth, he just wiggles so much.

I did not immerse in bath water until the bell cap fell off and his stump did as well (both did on Father's Day). I did the sponge bath routine. Did he get the bell cap? I was told to push back the foreskin a bit so you can wash under the ridge...does that make sense? My first boy - learning too!

We didn't circ so I don't know anything about that, but I can just tell you that Zintis didn't even get a bath at all until he was 10 days old. Smile he was wiped down well at birth (although he came out very clean), and I washed his hair at two days to get the gunk out. Then yeah, he's had 1 bath at 10 days old. I mean, I figure, how is he even getting dirty? I clean him up/wipe him down any time he gets dirty (poop, spit-up, etc)... So yeah... I just let him be! Wink

Oh man, I've never even heard of a bell cap! I've been washing him up with baby soap on a wet washcloth whenever he gets messy, like spits up or has a diaper leak. I wish I had a step by step manual for this little boy.

You'll start to feel more and more comfortable really soon- that said, I LOVE Dr. Sears's The Baby Book. It has a very simple straight-forward chapter on caring for a newborn. I think it covers babies up to two years. I found it a very useful book. Because I agree with you, there are some really basic things that I found myself wondering about as a new mom, that I felt like I should know, but wasn't really sure about.

We didn't circ here either, so can't comment on that. I gave him a quick wipe down last night with a wet rag and tiny bit of soap bc he was starting to stink a little from all the spit-up and he seems to poo every diaper. Even after this cord falls off, we don't do baths but maybe 1x a week or when he's smelly. It's not really neccessary with babies since they don't do much to get dirty!
