Here's my 6 week old Emalyn! ( again sorry pics r sooooo huge)
Here's my two daughters!
Ok, so ema has had a pooping problem and hasn't pooped since Monday! I did like the doc said and tried a warm bath with a warm washcloth on her belly, messaging her tummy, and gave her prune juice. I will cntinue to pump and give prune juice when able but other than a rectal temp what do u suggest? I want to keep her regular and not have to visit the er anymore.
And here is the other issue, I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO EAT ANYMORE! I have cut out dairy and soy. Any ideas?
Here's what I can think of to eat:
Salad with ctx or ham and non cream based dressings
Tuna on crackers (no mayo)
Ctx nuggets or patties and frys
Tacos no cheese or sour cream
Pizza with no cheese (picked off)
Adorable pictures! Im not much help on what to eat though. What about throwing an extra feeding or two in to keep her more hydrated?
You are exclusively nursing? And they are concerned about no poop in four days? Is there a reason? Lucas only pooped every seven days like clockwork after the initial newborn poops until we started solids. I was told that was 100% normal. Is she having other issues that make this a bigger problem?
Wow, I didn't know you could give a newborn prune juice! Learn something new every day.
Some kids just don't poop as much as others...bottom line. (pun intended. :P ) Like Rachelle said, it might be normal for her.
Are you still giving her formula? I've never much heard of exclusively breast fed babies getting constipated, perhaps cut out the formula if you can? If there is a problem, that might fix you up.
There are millions of foods you can eat that don't include diary and soy. You might just have to cook them yourself (i.e. not buy pre-made):
- chicken breast
- pork chops
- steamed vegetables
- chicken noodle soup
- meat loaf
- egg noddles
- tomato sauce
- roasted potatoes
- baked potatoes
- bacon (read the package)
I think the bottom line is you'll need trim your diet down to the simple elements and eat un-processed foods. Grill up a pack of chicken breasts and it will last you a few meals.
I'm not sure if you can have tortillas but you could make some yummy chicken veggie wraps. Even soft tacos.
*hugs* once you find some meals you love it won't seem so bad. Before I got pregnant I was on a Slow Carb diet that involved no white carbs (bread, pasta, rice, etc.) and no dairy. It was really weird (and hard) at first...but it became normal after a while and I had so much more energy. I lost 25 lbs in 3 months on it without even exercising at all.
Be thankful you don't like to drink milk!
You could also get the refrigerated coconut milk. I used that in everything when I didn't eat dairy with DS1 and DD. I stayed off of dairy until they were around a year. It can be done. You can search for vegan recipes...they wouldn't use dairy and you can check for soy.
Is her dr worried? I've also heard up to 2+ weeks isn't a big deal for pooping as long as they aren't uncomfortable.
I miss chocolate milk with breakfast, cereal, and ice cream. I use almond milk in my coffee and it makes a huge difference. I rarely use the special formula now .
They were only concerned bc she wasn't keeping down her food and straining and crying. The prune juice did it! Yay. Hope. I don't have to again!
I too wonder if it is really a pooping problem...very likely could be her settling into her new normal. I had the same thing happen with DS1. I worried about it at the time but in hindsight I realized it was just his normal. He was a fussy baby and so it was hard to determine if there was a cause like constipation but I really think it was just how he was.
