I use lotion and just started this week. Last pregnacy I did lotion and baby oil while in the shower.

Mostly, I've heard stretch marks are more genetic than something you can prevent. I had DS 5 weeks earlier with no stretch marks, but I'm pretty sure with the size he was estimated to be (he as 6.8lbs at 35 weeks), I would have.

I just use body lotion all the time, pregnant or not. With my DS, I did buy Palmer's my last 2 months because my skin was itching so badly but it smells (IMO) sooo bad that I could barely stand to use it. My absolute favorite was the lotion I used with DD - it was Vaseline brand cocoa butter lotion but came in a tube and was thick - I can only find it now in a pump and it's super runny..bleh!

I have never put stock in those stretch mark creams. My belly gets so unbelievably stretched that it is beyond repair...I take it in stride at this point! My belly is covered in stretch marks - but no one ever sees my belly besides DH, so I really am beyond caring. I'm not a bikini wearer or anything.

I do use lotion when it starts to get itchy those last months.

I just use regular lotion and I put it on once a day. I don't think I could remember to do anything other than that lol

I'm terrible about things like that. I thought I was home free with DD when I didn't have any by 36 weeks. Then I got ATTACKED by stretch marks in the last 4 weeks. And I am a bikini wearer - so that SUCKS! My doc also said that there's really not all that much to do. Apparently French women get more varicose veins, and North Americans get more stretch marks. Interesting.

I lotion for the itching. I never put any weight into the stretch mark side of it. I have horrible stretch marks from DD. At one point while i was pregnant with her I really had to go to the bathroom while my friends daughter was in the house. She walked in and asked why i had spider webs on my tummy. LMAO. O well.

I've never used any creams or lotions either! When itchy, then I might use a bit of lotion, but that's all. I've been fortunate, I only have a couple small stretch marks on my hips and that's all. My biggest baby was only 8 pounds, 4 ounces though, and I think I have some good genetics (my mom never had a single stretch mark). I'm guessing this baby will likely be smaller than 8 pounds, so I'm not too worried about it.

Ihave TONS! I lotion when I am itching like crazy which the last couple days has been a ton on my belly. I have awful marks on my belly and my legs. I need to start lotioning more. I think it's genetics too. I used lotions aLLLl of hte time with DS and ended up with tons.

Part of me believes the genetic component and whether your skin type is susceptible to stretch marks, but why risk it? LOL. With DD I used Cocoa Butter lotion pretty consistently. I had stretch marks on my hips for years before even getting pg so I know it can happen to me! That said, I only ended up with one tiny one from my pg with DD and it is beside the hole for my belly button ring. I'm guessing the hole is the factor because I wasn't born with it.

Ashley - Have you checked out The Body Shop cocoa butter Body Butter? It's REALLY thick.

I am a lotion girl! So yes, I have put lotion on since day 1. I like using the cocunut cream that comes in a jar. I don't buy those stretch mark pregnancy creams, I think the other ones work the same. Plus, I like to put it on my belly to bond with the baby alittle more!

I do use cocoa butter cream, basically from day one. With DS I didn't get any stretch marks, but with DD I did. I also gained like twice the weight with DD too, so that may have something to do with it!

I put a natural oatmeal lotion on after showering, or sometimes coconut oil. I also don't have any stretchmarks. It was actually the first thing the midwife said to me at my first appt, "no stretchmarks?!?" I'm pretty sure my mom got them, but she gained ALOT of weight. I try to gain no more than 35 pounds, and it's gradual. So I think that helps.

No I'll have to check it out! I usually buy the body creme from Bath & Body (the one in the tube that you squeeze).

You know what's funny is that the only new stretch mark I got with my DS was at the top of my belly button right where a belly button ring hole would be, but I've never had mine pierced. Strange that it's in such a similar spot to yours. I got stretch marks with my DD but only on the undersides of my breasts and on the sides of my butt...both of which are mostly covered up so I can wear a bikini still. But my butt looked like I had been attacked by a tiger the last 2 months of my 1st pregnancy. Yikes! FTR, my mom didn't get stretch marks much worse than me and gained 3x the weight I did. I can't imagine any kind of cream, lotion, or oil gets down all the way to the skin layer that stretch marks are formed in but like you said, it doesn't hurt just in case it makes a difference (and definitely helps the itching anyway).
