    Default Brain size

I was just updating my baby space and saw these two photos together:

The top is 12w2d and the bottom is 19w. I thought it was interesting how big the black brain area got over the 7 weeks between the two photos. I'm guessing that means the brain grew that much? I guess it could always be the angle of the u/s....not sure. I just thought it was neat.

Hard to know for sure, but you got some great profile pics of baby!!! The brain definitely does some "rapid" growing in the second trimester though.

Very cute baby! That black area isn't actually the brain though. On ultrasound low density things are black. Black is fluid. You can see the baby floating in all that nice black amniotic fluid. That black area in the head is fluid, but that's normal! Brain ventricles contain cerebral spinal fluid. You can't actually see much of the brain at all in the second picture, but he looks like a smarty in the first

LOL, thanks for clearing that up. I was hoping someone on here knew more. I'm sciencey but not really so good with ultrasound stuff!

So why the difference in the two then? Different angle? It was obviously different equipment too.

I think you're right, it's the angle! The probe is angled more towards that area of fluid and less toward the brain. I'm sure glad I am not an ultrasound tech! It looks so challenging, especially when it comes to measuring something that looks totally different from every angle!

Ya, I wouldn't have the patience for that job...I also wouldn't be rude enough or scare the patients enough. :P

I think it would be interesting...something I think I would enjoy learning. Maybe I should look into it, I'm ready for a new career.

I have considered that for a job in the past! I think it would be interesting......except for the fat old men coming in for ultrasounds of things other than babies.....LOL.

There were sure a lot of 'non baby' ultrasounds when I was there the other day. The place was packed. Some people were pretty old and there were a few wearing masks. I hope I don't get some weird disease now. LOL
