Does anyone have a The First Years miPump Double? A friend is selling one for $40 that has only been used 3 times. I need one as I borrowed the one I had with DD so I need to buy a new one.
This is it here:
The First Years miPump Double Electric Breast Pump : Target
I'm wondering if it's an ok one. Obviously it's not as good as a $200 one but we don't use it very often.
Well... I haven't had that one, but for only forty and almost brand new, I would say go for it, and if it sucks at least it isn't a massive amount of money you will be out, but if it works out well you would have gotten a pretty good deal.
(but I am also the same person who thinks "I've spent more money on less" soooo....)
I was just reading reviews and they seem decent. One review said it was an 'open system' so you couldn't share it or sell it. I don't totally understand what that means. How could they make a breast pump you can't clean???? I do know the girl selling it.
The only way I could think of would be if the milk went into the actual mechanism but why would it?... I think it should be fine.
That's what I'm wondering. Whether you share/sell it or not, you should be able to clean the whole thing...I mean, milk goes bad, right? You can't not clean it!
I know with the medela PIS (I have this one) it just means the air flow / suction is not a closed system. So the air flow in
the pump mechanism is not separated from that in the tubes, etc. It is also supposed to be a single use pump. But the milk doesn't actually flow through the whole thing.
You can totally buy a used pump! You just need new tubing. As for how well it works, that is really an individual thing. I had a medela, electric pump that I bought from a friend for my first dd. I could literally not pump a single drop when I tried to use that thing. My body just did not respond at all. With the freebee hand pump that I got from the hospital, I had success though. Go figure! I would say, in general, if your body responds well to a pump, you will probably be fine with that one. My body generally hates pumps... I can try and pump on my own for 20 minutes straight and only get a drop. Then, put a baby on and I start gushing milk like crazy after 30 seconds!!
I also have a modela (sp?) and love it. The hospital I had elora in gave me additional accessories for it as it didnt come to me for 2 weeks after she was born (had to be here to send the paperwork to my insurance). I would see what accessories your hospital/birthing center will give you first, then you don't have to spend for the tubing and such! that could cost as much as the difference between your friends price and the price to buy it new. I know i looked into buying more tubing and such and it was over $30
I HAVE THAT ONE! Lol
It's been easy enough for me to clean and it works fine. Mine is actually the single but I liked it enough to talk y friend into buying it and she got the double and pumped a ton with it! PM me is you have any questions about it, I've liked it just fine.
I'm in Canada and unfortunately no one gives us free breast pumps. :(
Thanks for the tips ladies. Why do you need new tubes? Because you can't disinfect them properly? For cleaning do you just pump hot water through it?
My last one was a Medela I borrowed. It was pretty good. I like the idea of a double because when I pump/nurse on one side I get a let-down on the other and it will spray everywhere if I don't apply pressure to it. Ouchies. If I had a double I could harness that power and be done faster.
Oh man, I don't miss that feeling now that I think about it. I think I must have a very fast let down. DD used to have to gulp gulp gulp SO fast. Poor thing. :P
