Brushing Teeth

how is everyone doing with this? i feel like im still struggling everyday with the gagging. Is there an end to this? or will i be doing this my whole pregnancy? i did it with DS and i cant remember if one day it just stopped. I try to focus on something like reading a label while Im brushing to take my mind off of it sometimes it helps some times it doesnt. I also try to spit more often so the build up of toothpaste doesnt linger in my mouth

any suggestions you ladies find that helps?

You don't need toothpaste at all. The dentist admits this. Brush well and thoroughly, use floss too.

I"m not having an issue with the gagging, but the pregnancy is making my gums bleed. DS & I brush together and he wants to know why is mommy's red?

I was going to suggest trying different toothpastes...but no toothpaste would likely be easier on the tummy. You really just need to break the plaque up so just the brush is better than nothing. Smile

Yeah, if I am brushing for too long without spitting that's when I get a problem. I just use a very small amount of toothpaste and spit very often.

I had that problem with DS. I don't remember when it stopped bothering me but I do remember how annoying it was. Like Noelle, I just have bleeding gums this time.

I am ok brushing my teeth, but I cannot brush my tounge! Even though I don't get sick, my gagging reflex is still pretty strong. I can't even hold a pencil in my mouth without gagging!

I have had this issue through most of my pregnancy. I had to get an un-minty toothpaste (I ended up with Extreme Orange or something like that from Crest) and when I brush the very back, it was real quick. About two weeks ago I finally stopped gagging AND could switch back to mint toothpaste.

Glad I'm not the only one!! I think I brush too vigorously and that's triggering the gag reflex. I read about the bleeding gums bc of the increase in blood flow and blood volume. I try to brush more softly, but I don't feel it's as thoroughly done since ive been doing it this way for so long!

I haven't tried this but I've read a suggestion to use a child's size toothbrush. Some ladies say it helps.

I really only gagged as long as I was nauseous...once the nausea went away, the gagging did too.
