So I had the Graco Snugride that I used with both DS and DD, but I sold it after DD because it would have expired before I needed to use it now. I've been looking again, and even though I babywear alot, think that I need an infant seat. Mostly because I would only need to get one and another base.
I have been looking at the Graco Snugride 35, because it would be good until 35 pounds. Dd is still rear facing at 2 1/2 and she is only 28ish pounds.
Anyone have a snugride 35? Or have a carseat that they would recommend?
I have an older Snugride that only goes up to 22lbs or so. I used it with DD. When I got it I had considered getting the one that goes up to 35 lbs but it turns out it was a good thing I didn't bother. DD was only 16lbs at a year and we moved her out of the infant seat shortly after that. She actually topped it out in height before she ever got close to doing so in weight.
Do you make big kids? Based on your daughter's size, I'd say no. LOL. My dd is almost 3 and is 27 lbs (and still RF).
What vehicle do you drive? If space is an issue for RF seats I'd look into that too. I'm not sure how long the snugride 35 is but I think it's shorter and better for smaller vehicles.
I would advise against a high weight limit carrier ONLY because you will never carry even a 30 pounder on your arm! My 3.5 YO doesn't even weigh that. Personally I'm all about a budget carrier and then step up to a convertible (rear facing) when you don't use the carrier as a carrier anymore. I have a Baby Trend Flex Loc and its been great! Just my two cents
I have a Graco Safeseat. I'm not sure they even make that now??? Anyway, it goes up to 30 pounds AND has a higher height limit. My 15 month old is still in that seat. He's only about 22 pounds, but he would have exceeded the height limit on the other carriers by now. Of course I stopped carrying him in the seat a long time ago, but it still works great as a seat in the car... as good as any other rear facing seat. Actually, now that I think about it, it has a higher rear facing limit then my Britax roundabout. My soon to be 3 year old just got turned around because that seat rear faces to 28 pounds and she is now 29...
Anyway, since you need to buy a new seat anyway, you might as well buy the one with the higher weight limit.
Yeah, I make big babies, but they gradually slow down. Both kids have outgrown the snugride either by height or weight by 9ish months. So if I got the Snugride 35, we wouldn't carry it, it would just stay in the car. I just don't want to buy an infant seat then 9 months later have to buy 2 convertibles. I just checked and the length is 32 inches. Hmm, I have no idea how long the kids were...I should write this stuff down.
My kids outgrew the Graco infant seat by five months... It's expired now. I'm just going straight to the Radian (Diono or whatever they changed the name to now). It's not worth it for five months for me. And I already have two Radians so I have both vehicles covered. I just have to get two new booster seats and in the long run, that's the best money savings (my 7yo is in a booster in my car but still uses the Radian in hubby's truck. Probably time to change her to a booster!)
I understand what you mean about not wanting to buy more car seats than necessary. My friend has a Chicco Keyfit 30 and loves it, but it's too $$ for me for something I only use 8-9 months.
We had a Graco that went up to 22 lbs, but when DH was in a car accident in September, we got insurance to pay for a new infant seat and got the Graco 35. My 13 month old is still in it. It's true that I don't carry it around everywhere, I usually just leave it in the car and buckle him in and out like I would a convertible seat. BUT I do still carry the seat in: if he is sleeping and I want him to keep napping, if I am dropping him at a babysitters and he will be going down for a nap while there, etc. He is 23 lbs at 13 months, so pretty average. I will switch him once spring comes to the next seat, but for now I actually like that I can still carry him in if I want to. He would be grown out of the old Graco one by now, so I'm kind of glad.
