Sandra, I like that punch idea! My kids have only ever had soda one time before, so they would definitely think that's a treat. My mom use to make one with fruit punch, pineapple juice, ginger ale, and even a little ice cream mixed in.
Heather, I guess with the casserole it's kind of like if you had a toasted sandwich with eggs, cheese, and sausage. The bread isn't necessarily "gone," but it's not like eating a slice of bread either. With the sweet bread (when it has the icing on it), it's very much like eating a fresh, homemade cinnamon roll. :-) Yes, I bake it the day before.
Now usually I dont cook on christmas day, But on my family moms side family christmas we would always have this recipe made a few different ways per preference.
1/4 cup green pepper
1/4 cup onion
1 pkg. hash browns
1 dozen eggs
1/2 cup milk
1/2 stick butter
Meat of your choice, Browned
Put has brown sin bottom of 9x13 inch pan. Put butter in chunks on top of hash browns and bake at 400 degrees for about 15 minute, until hash browns start browning. Mix eggs and milk. Add peppers and onions, and pour over hash browns. Sprinkle on meat, then cheese; cover with foil and bake 30 minutes at 375 degrees. Take foil off and bake 15 more minutes more at 325 degrees. Yield: 8 to 10 servings.
Note: Freezes well. Can be prepared the night before and refrigerated overnight.
Now im making a cook book of all my favorite recipes while on bedrest so they are in one spot. I was thinking of trying one of these this year!
Overnight French Toast
1/2 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
12 slices white bread
4 beaten eggs
1 1/2 cup milk
Melt butter in 9x13 pan. Stir in sugar and cinnamon. Put bread in double layers on top. Pour eggs and milk over top of bread. Refrigerate overnight covered. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Turn pan over into another pan. Serve and enjoy!
Cinnamon Swirl Bread
1 1/3 cup granulated sugar
2 tsp. ground cinnamon
2 cups all purpose flour
1 T. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 egg, beaten
1 cup milk
1/3 cup vegetable oil
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 9x5x3 inch loaf pan. Mix 1/3 cup sugar and cinnamon; set aside. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and remaining sugar. Combine egg, milk and oil; add to flour mixture. Stir by hand just until moistened. Pour half the batter into prepared pan. Sprinkle with half the cinnamon mixture. Repeat with remaining batter and cinnamon mixture. Draw a knife through batter to marble. Bake for 45 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pan for 10 minutes. Remove from pan. Cool. Wrap and store bread overnight.
I usually do something simple like eggs and pancakes. Christmas morning is hectic enough for me without trying to make a big meal. But I think my mom is doing brunch this year so I might get out of that too!

Kia, I am definitely going to try out that french toast recipe. Breakfast is always tricky because I don't want to deal with a lot in the morning, and the kids don't want to wait for hours while I make something. I hate doing cereal all the time, because it gets expensive, and I don't feel like it really fills the kids up too well. This recipe should be something they will like, and I can just throw it in the oven in the morning - PERFECT!!!
Ok, so I've decided what i'm going to make. I got the supplies today.
Land of Nod Cinnamon Buns (make ahead)

and this breakfast casserole a friend shared the recipe for:
12 slices white bread
1/2 lbs grated sharp cheese
1 1/2 cups cubed ham
2 cups milk
Remove crusts from bread slices, cut in cubes. Put into a greased 9 x 12 inch oblong dish. Mix with grated cheese. Beat eggs in medium sized bowl; add milk and stir. Pour this egg-milk mixture over bread and cheese; top with cubed ham. Cover pan with plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 4 hours or overnight. (uncover before baking) Bake at 325 degrees for 35-45 minutes. Serve. This can be frozen after the 4-hour refrigeration. Thaw before baking.
Plus I`m going to cook up some bacon. Seems like enough for this small crowd. I like that both recipes are make ahead and they seem pretty easy!!!
Oh, this reminds me...I should go shopping for food! I think I will do French toast, sausages, bacon, potatoes, and fruit. Just go allllllll out ;)
