Dangit. Wardrobe emergency.

DH has his company Christmas function on Friday. I was expecting it to be maybe semi-formal. I just found out that it's formal, just one step below tuxes for men. DH will be wearing a full suit. So now I need something fancy to wear!
All my maternity stuff is too big still (which is strange for me at 13 weeks) and my regular stuff is getting too small. Not to mention, I don't even really have anything formal anyways! Ugh. While I would love to go shopping and buy a pretty new formal dress (probably a xs or s maternity would work) I don't want to shell out $70 for a new dress!
I actually bought a little black lace dress from someone on Craigslist (I bought a maternity winter coat from them) but I never took the time to try it on. It's a bit short for my liking and really clingy to the thighs....at least I only spent $7 on it.

BAH, I hate this awkward middle phase where maternity is too big and regular clothes are too small! And I own nothing formal! GRR.

Yikes. I wore a dress with leggings for "formal" night on our cruise and just a sundress on the other (but they don't really care how formal you are). Good luck finding something. I hate buying pricey clothes when you're preggo because it is such a waste...maybe leave the tags on and return it? Wink

Oh, that's tough. I wouldn't buy maternity if I were you. I would buy a "regular" dress with an empire waist. That way hopefully you can get more mileage out of it. Do you have any good consignment stores in your area? I'm not talking thrift stores here, consignment "usually" have better quality stuff - or at least you have to do less hunting to find the good stuff. If you have any college campuses near you there might be a good consignment store there.

I came on here to post a similar thread! A lot of my regular stuff doesn't work. And the maternity, just looks ridiculous! Of course at home when I am home I don't care, but when it comes time to go out in public it can be a problem. I know by Christmas maternity clothes will probably look better on me, but for now I'm not happy about it!

I'm in the same situation. We are hosting the company Christmas party next week and it's formal as well. Not exaxtly sure what I'm going to wear. I think some dress pants or skirt with a nice sweater would be cute, could always put a belly band under it. I also think leggings with a long tunic would look nice. To look more formal something with a shiny material and sparkle would be perfect! Hopefully we can come up with something soon!

Do you have anything a little less formal that you can dress up with jewels and shoes? Especially if it's black it usually works. And a agree with doing non mat wear with an empire or forgiving waist so that it won't be a one time thing.

I hate this! When I was about 14 weeks with DD we had my DH's BF's wedding to attend. DH was in the wedding party but luckily I wasn't. I didn't look PG, just pudgy. At first I bought a maternity dress and thought it was good...until we got it home and DH took pictures of me in it. I looked like I was wearing a TENT. I ended up taking my mom and DH to Sears and trying on some normal dresses. I found an acceptable one with an empire waste that I could wear when I wasn't pg. I have worn it since too! It looks better when I'm not pg actually. LOL.

So yes, I'd go for something non-pregnancy that would work. You might have to try lots on. It might be depressing. Sad I know it was for me.

At least if you have to spend a few bucks, you know you'll wear it again, right? Maybe go for a classic black dress? Everyone can use one of those and they are fairly easy to dress up or down.

I have the same problem. We have a formal wedding on Saturday. Luckily my mother in law Is very fashionable and 2 sizes bigger than me. So I'm borrowing her dress. I know it will work because I did the same thing with my last pregnancy. Because you are right, at this point maternity stuff is way too big and our normal stuff is too small. Do you have a friend that you could maybe borrow a dress from?

:lurk:
darn! If I had more time I would offer to alter the dress you have for you. Try Value Village, we bought my maid-of-honor's dress there for $30.

I went shopping today Smile

I ended up going with maternity, but got stuff that I will still be able to get use out of in this pregnancy. I do dress up for church every Sunday so I just got a shirt and skirt that I can still use at church, but that I can dress up for the party. Black pencil skirts are sexy, right? Wink Got a black pencil skirt in a size small, which will fit me until I'm about 6 months. I needed a new maternity skirt anyways. And got a pretty purple top with sparkly sequin stripes on it....sequins make anything fancy hahaha.

I'll post pics tomorrow when I get all dolled up!
