Doppler

Who else has a Doppler? I pulled mine out this afternoon just for fun. I'm only 8w6d but figured I'd play. I first heard DD at 10w4d but that was the day I got the Doppler so I couldn't have tried sooner.

Anyways, I definitely found the placenta today! It seems to be on my left side, so hopefully it stays to one side! It was in the front with DD and definitely affected what you could feel from the outside! I also think it protected my bladder because I never got bladder kicks. Anyways, I *may* have caught the bean's HB for a second but I'm not 100% sure because it was such a short amount of time. It definitely wasn't the placenta as it was on the other side and don't have the 'wind' sound the placenta has.

I guess I'll try again in a few days with a full bladder.

That's exactly when I tried with my doppler and I found it!!! It was hard to find but once I found it I could keep it for awhile. Definitely by 10 weeks i could always find it and now I put it right on my belly and the hb is there! so fun!

Making DH buy me one next payday. The whole waiting to go to the doctor has its downsides sometimes.

I got it off eBay last pregnancy. I'll get you a link:

New Blue Medical Model CONTEC 3MHz Baby Doppler Prenatal Heart Fetal Monitor Gel | eBay

That's the one I have. So worth the money!

I just read you can't hear it by Doppler till 10 weeks... Sometimes at 9 in a thin person. That surprised me! I thought you'd be able to hear it sooner than that. I love hearing the heart beat!

I think it depends a lot on the machine and the person. I'd think you uterus gets higher sooner with 2 and subsequent pregnancies.

Well I pulled out my trusty Hibebe Bistos that I got when pregnant with DS1, 9w exactly and we have 180bpm! This is the earliest I have ever found it, always had to wait until 10-11w with DS2 and DD.

I wish that was something that I had invested in with my first. There are several things I wish I had invented in with my first, but didn't :(. It would be nice to hear babies heartbeat whenever I am spotting!

I have one too. I found baby's HB last week at 8 weeks. I was pretty surprised. I've tried a few times since and it is tricky because that tiny thing moves around a lot. Sometimes I find it, sometimes I don't.

Watch for one coming up used. If you could find one used you could probably sell it for about the same price after you're done with it.

So wish I had bought one with my first!! I've rented one with every pregnancy since my second. I always rent it for just a couple months... until I'm feeling regular movement. That ends up being about $50 each pregnancy though!! You know, I think I'm going to buy one this time. Even if this is my last I can sell it for at least $30-$40 and spend less then renting.

Good call Laurie! You totally can sell it for that much afterwards. Around here anyways. Because I had to pay shipping and exchange on mine (I'm in Canada) it ended up costing me closer to $100. Still worth it though. I've lent it to a couple friends since DD was born and they've enjoyed it too. I was just thinking last night that I need to check the batteries in it...I'm not sure I've ever replaced them!

I think I only paid about $30 for mine and it works fine. I had a different one (an AngelSounds brand) for my 1st pregnancy but it was dead when I pulled it out for my 2nd one.

I wasn't able to find DS's HB last time until 9w2d I believe but I thought I'd try early anyway this time. Took a while but when I found it it was obvious! Best sound ever!

But don't get down if you can't find it. I've tries a few times since and sometimes baby moves to where I can find it.

Yea I tried last night and couldn't find it. It's ok. I'll try Gain in a couple of days. Wink

The full pee bladder in the morning really helps. Smile

I also found if I've been sleeping on my stomach or side, I have better luck. Seems baby "migrates" towards my front that way rather than when I've been walking around all day. Just a few more weeks and it won't matter because baby will be big enough to find easily! Smile

I have a tilted uterus, and I've never been able to find it until 11 weeks! I'll probably try at around 10 this time anyway... maybe just maybe I'll get lucky! Smile

I have a tilted uterus too! I was sort of wondering if that played a factor in it all. I definitely found DD at 10.5 weeks so I'll try again in a few days for this one. I bet our uteruses haven't righted themselves yet. LOL

I think they're great! I use mine quite a bit up until I start feeling baby move just for reassurance. Then later, if baby hasn't been moving much, it helps me feel better too. JMO.

Same here. It was our Friday morning tradition with DD!
