To the ladies that own one or have owned one, Is the heartbeat actually accurate? When i went in for my ultrasound the heartbeat was 175 and my doppler always seems to give me 120ish number?
I own the Sonotrax-B Fetal Doppler
Mine starts out saying something around 120ish, and then as I continue to hold it there it rises to around the 160's. If it stays around the 120's then chances are, you may be picking up your own heartbeat and not the baby's. If I leave it on a spot that I know is my heartbeat and not the baby's, then it usually starts around 120, and drops just a bit (although I don't think my heartbeat is over 100, I think it just doesn't "read" much below 120...).
The whooshing sound is usually the placenta...it beats and sounds like wind in the trees. Work out from there. Sometimes you need to angle it around and push pretty hard. LOL.
Does yours have a little heart that beats in the top left corner of the screen? Mine has this little heart icon that beats when it is registering a beat. When baby is small and/or I don't have a super great angle, I can hear the heartbeat but the heart icon isn't beating along with it. If the heart icon isn't beating then it isn't registering and the numbers are off. I don't really go a super lot by the number anyways...I just like to hear a nice fast one.
I actually think it sounds like a train chugging along. Also, since you are around 10 weeks you will probably have to go pretty low down. When I first found mine at around 10 weeks I was right at my pubic hair line and I had to push pretty hard. Definitely try different angles and move the doppler VERY slowly, because you can sometimes find in one spot, and literally if you move it a fraction of an inch you can lose it! You can refer back to Heather's post from a few weeks ago to hear what it should sound like. She had a video of hers posted, and it was perfect!
