I hear ya! I think a 5 or 6 lb baby might be the key to that. Blum 3

I just love that picture. She really does look so sweet!

Unfortunately I tore with my smaller (6.3 lber.) and not with my bigger (7.5 lber.)
I let the doctor stretch my perineum more with the bigger one, I think that is the key. It is awfully uncomfortable, but so is dealing with stitches for weeks afterwards!

I am pretty much screwed with my 9+ lb babies. Dang it. My worst tear was with my smallest though - 7 lbs 8 oz. First baby though, and little tiny "virgin" hoo-hah!

After my first (7 lbs 10 ounces) I never tore with any of mine. My second was over 8 lbs - and no tears. I guess you are suppose to not "over push" if you don't want to tear, so the head comes out more gradually. My last 3 pretty much shot out though... I guess by that point my body was "pre stretched" by the previous babies though.

I don't think it's the size...I had 2nd degree tear with both of mine and my first was 4 lbs 12 oz at 33 wks 4 days. I actively pushed them both out in like 3 to 5 pushes. I think it's how fast they come out and if you are able to control the exit by letting things stretch more on their own. I obviously don't really know though as I've had no luck with not tearing.

Congratulations Kia & family!! She's beautiful!

As to the tearing - DD was 8lb14oz and I didn't tear. I pushed for about an hour though, and my doc used almond oil to treat the area to avoid tearing. She also didn't encourage me to push the baby out super fast. Considering how much it still hurt to pee, I couldn't imagine tearing! Definitely doesn't have to do with the size of the baby.
