Er trip while out of town...update

Was at dinner with my family and went up to go to the bathroom. I had what felt like a bubble or air in my vagina, but then it gushed out blood. Lots of blood, one large clot and a few small clots. But I had no pain or cramping. I was sure I was miscarrying because of the shear amount of blood.

We went to the Er an after tests and ultrasounds the baby is great. Measuring 8w5d with 167 hb. I have a sub chorionic hematoma. I'm still confused and I'm not sure what that really means. I am in Michigan and I didn't get a straight answer if it is safe to fly or not.

Back at family's now and just taking it easy. Still a bit confused and worried.

----------------------------///////

Still bleeding and talked to my OB. They want to see me ASAP when I get home. We travel tomorrow and my u/s is on Wednesday at 11am.

I found out more about it. Subchroinic hemmorage/hematoma is when the placenta separates from the uterus and a clot forms behind, sometimes it reabsorbs , sometimes it doesn't and the size can vary. The is a much higher chance of miscarriage as well.

I found a support group for SCH online and it looks like depending on the size and severity and my dr, I might be looking at bed rest, modified bed rest or at the very least pelvic rest.

The scary thing is gushes of blood could happen again with no notice like the first time. I'll update after I talk to my OB. I'm just praying for a healthy baby again at this u/s.

I've heard of sub chorionic hematoma before...apparently they are quite common and often resolve themselves. So the doctor didn't mention the flying thing? Weird.

Sorry you are worried. That must have been SO scary! I'm glad to hear baby is ok though. Yikes!

I need to stay away from google because the more I read, the more concerned I am becoming.

I've had one with both pregnancies. Both times it went away on it's own and everything was fine. They only told me to be on pelvic rest for a few weeks. I wouldn't think flying would be a problem. Are you still bleeding?

I had the huge gush last night, and some decent bleeding at the hospital. Now it seems like a moderate period.

Any suggestions? What's pelvic rest? Dr said to take it easy, but not bed rest really, but I'm doing essentially modified bed rest.

I think pelvic rest is no DTD. Smile

I haven't googled the condition but I've known a few people with it. Doesn't it normally resolve itself eventually? It's still super scary though. Sad

From what I have been reading it seems relational to the size of the hematoma and the size of the baby. I larger the hematoma and the smaller the baby, there is a larger likelihood of miscarriage, preterm labor and prematurity.

Right now it seems like a waiting game till I know more, but there is not much I can do other than take it easy.

How scary. I would think flying would be okay, it brings you closer to your doctor anyway. Pelvic rest is definitely no DTD. Take it easy and i hope it all resolves itself soon!

Some how I missed this! Oh how scarey. Apparently this "condition" is the most common source of bleeding in pregnancy OTHER than miscarriage... yes, it can cause a miscarriage, but I've known a few people in real life who had this during their pregnancies and they all currently have beautiful little babies (well, one is still pregnant - 27 weeks along).

So, did you have an ultrasound this morning then? Waiting for an update!!

How scary. i hope it is a mild case and all is well. my cousin had a subcorionic hemerage and bled a ton for two weeks. she was on strict bed rest for two weeks and could sit up for an additional 5. her daughter is healthy and happy 5 month old now. is your appontment next week or was it today?

Any other update? Did you see your doc today?

This seems to be a fairly common thing...I've seen quite a few ladies on here go through this...seems to be someone every few months. All the ones I've seen on here have gone on to have healthy pregnancies. I think your odds are pretty good. I know it's scary though. :bigarmhug:

I had it with my first and my second had unexplained bleeding for over a month. With both they put me on modified bed rest. I could still go to work but wasn't supposed to stand for very long, no lifting over 10 lbs and obviously no DTD. If I stood for more than 20 mintes or did any lifting (like laundry or a toddler) I had heavier bleeding.

The bleeding stopped for me both times by the end of the first trimester. Obviously things turned out ok but google is not your friend right now! Good luck Smile
